Buy a muzzle and have someone hold him while you clip his nails.

If he's ever had his quick cut, this is a pretty natural reaction. What you can try is to have him on his side, and you just pretend to cut his nails - gently hold his paw, pretend to cut so he hears the sound of the clippers. Do this every day for a couple of days, then when he seems a little calmer, try clipping just the tiniest bit from a couple of nails (or more depending on his reaction).

If you take it slow and easy he should be ok, but if not, you're going to have to muzzle him. Also, try taking him for a long walk to tire him out first so he'll hopefully be calmer. Good luck.

First of all, he needs to be properly trained. In the meantime, get a soft muzzle. They're made of nylon and velcro closed behind their ears. Most vets and petshop sell them and they're not expensive. They come in all sizes from Chihuahua size to Great Dane size. They don't hurt the dog and go a long way to show him who's boss. Have someone help you by holding the dog still.

Be careful you're not getting the quick of the nail when you're clipping - this really hurts the dog. But you'd know if you were, because they bleed like mad.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aUM2X

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

When I need to trim my dog's nails, someone in the family holds her, but covers her face (eyes) with one hand and holds it to their chest. The other hand holds the body firmly in place. Then I take one paw at a time and trim the nails. After each one, we give lots of praise and a treat when it is all finished. Works every time!!

Go to the pet supply store and buy a muzzle. You may need to measure the circumference of his snout at the base in order to choose the correct size.
My dog snapped at me when I'd try to trim her nails, but I used a muzzle on her twice and threatened her with it once, and she's been fine ever since. Depending on your dog's temperament, you may need to continue using it every time you trim his nails.
Good luck to you!

Get a muzzle and continue with the grooming. Some dogs are like that my pompeck did not like to be brushed and trimmed she soon got over that with a few wacks.

Get a muzzle & put it on him before you trim his nails. Or go to the vet & let the vet or vet tech trim his nails. Doing it yourself saves money BUT be careful NOT to clip too short to avoid bleeding. Not sure? If the dog's nails are black, go to the vet to clip. If white, you can see where the blood starts & clip about 1 inch below.

I have to have someone hold my dog - Like they're carrying her around, under her belly, for me to be able to clip her nails. She gets scared and tries to bite or push away.

You dog is probably scared you are going to clip to far and hurt him. Unless you have professional training on how to clip nails, I would recomend using a file or even those quiet electrical files (drummels ??) and use that. Usually its the loud click that instigates the fear and the file will not hurt or make the click. Good luck
