There is no benefit. Insurance is mandatory in all states. If you say that you have no insurance, and say you get sued for the accident and you never told your insurance co that you had an accident and when you get sued you finally tell them about the accident, you can be in violation of your policy provisions as you are supposed to report all accidents to your insurance co. They can then handle under a reservation of rights, possibly deny coverage and leave you on the hook for everything. Also, they can non-renew you due to this which will make finding another insurance co at a decent rate almost impossible.

If someone hits you and doesn't have car insurance, yes, your insurance company still covers you. If you do not have insurance then you will be going to jail for a while.
If the accident wasn't your fault, again you are covered. If it was, then I am sure you will get a ticket and fines.
Also, in most states, it is illegal to be driving without any car insurance. It says that right on the back of your registration papers. It is considered a felony or misdemeanor.

Well if you like being sued, then you're in luck by saying that! Either your insurance company can pursue the person directly or you can sue if you don't carry coverage through your company. If the person is just saying that, he will change his tune when he starts getting chased down by the ins. co. etc. and he will reveal his insurance. If you get enough info on him, his insurance can be found and he'll have no choice because anyone can report a claim to his carrier.

In Houston, we have LOTS of illegal immigrants with no car insurance. The benefit is, they can walk into a hospital here, and US taxpayers pay all their medical bills.

Some dumb-@sses think rates won't increase if they don't report the claim. Newsflash: if law enforcement is involved or the other company is involved IT GETS REPORTED. You are correct in thinking that it is always better to let the ins. co. handle the mess of possible litigation, soaring repair costs, idiot lawyers, crooked chiropractors, etc.
