Some of you say it's because George Bush is fighting Islam. I don't see US soldiers indiscriminantly peppering Iraqi neighborhoods with M-16 bullets. Also, the people in charge of Iraq now are Muslims, and the people who are slaughtering innocent people with car bombs and gunfire are the MUSLIM insurgents. It's Muslim vs. Muslim, not George Bush vs. Islam.

On another computer we got a statistic. More Islamic Muslims are killed by others in their religion than are killed by USA and Israel combined. So why do they hate Americans and Israel?

While the initial reasons behind the first Gulf War were the invasion of Kuwait and in all probability also about oil the situation, as it stands, is far more complex. Governments and leaders of non-democratic countries in the Middle East do not want a democratic Iraq in their midst as a sense of democracy has a tendency to take root and spread. You only have to look at the many "orange" revolutions that took place in former Communist states. Neither Syria nor Iran have any wish to move towards democracy and are happy to sponsor terrorist groups to prevent this happening. While accepting that the West must shoulder some of the blame for what is happening in Iraq you are right,in that, it is Muslim factions killing Muslims. Given that, it is time for the religious leaders of all factions to be called to account. Islam is a faith of peace so why are they corrupting its message to the detriment of their own people? The ordinary people of Iraq simply want to get on with their lives and care for their families who has the right (God given or otherwise) to deny them that.

THis war for us is about the USA invading Iraq for our hidden agenda
The war for Iraqis is about sectarian dominance and for the moment we just happen to be there in the middle of it.(Shi-ite/Sunni)
Sadaam a sunni, suppressed the Shi-ites and kept in check the intrusion of Iran into Iraqi politics (With our help arming Sadaam)
that fought a protracted war against Iran to a draw.
Now we come along (for God knows the reason) and create for Iran what Iran could not do thru war against Sadaam. An attempt for Iran to control Shi-ites in both Iran and Iraq.
Now learning what we've done - we want to go to war with Iran again to keep them in check.
All of this makes no sense at the cost of our American soldiers and all of this expense thru the roof and for what?
It was cheaper to have Sadaam and acheive the same effect-
In short we f u c k e d up by listening to George and Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Why would Bush want oil prices to drop? He owns an oil company and has a vested intrest in Saudi Oil as well. This war is just like all wars, it is being fought over money. Religion is a Red Herring. (and a dangerous one at that)

a lot of answers on here are only going back to when we went in to sort out the Kuwait problem we should have gone in there years before yes i was in Kuwait working years before and yes we could hear the bombs and gunfire going on between Iran and Iraq but the US and UK did not want to get involved .
it was a bit to lat by the time Kuwait was involved i was out of the and back home in the UK by then .
i knew what was going to happen years before it did but could not give up my job till it was nearly too late.
Iraq wanted the Kuwait oil to keep its tanks planes and other **** going.
do not just think since we got involved think back a long way that place has been trouble for years

Its not just the USA at war, a lot of countries are there trying to make the stupid tribalists see sense, and its not about their products, its about their mindset that Muslums can kill others for no good reason.
