Not only women are putting these marks on their forehead, even children and male. For the ladies, this is to imply that they were already married. For children (both boys and girls) and male, this symbolizes their religion as a HINDU.

The red dot that the women wears is a symbol that they are married. they do not wear jewerly so this is there ring,A lady i work with is from india and she just told me this one
