I never understood why many prominent intellectuals could ever reason out the existence of a Creator. An atheist is: one who denies the existence of God
-Webster's Dictionary
Can anyone say there is no God? Do any of you find the defintion of an Atheist contradictary to the doctrine of science and reason? At the very least wouldn't you rather say you have no religion? Only a fool could say there is no God. Is this not true? I appreciate your input. Have a nice day!

I appologize if I have offended anyone. However, I find it hard to believe that an Athiest could hardly disagree with the fact that anyone who assumes anything without proven factual evidence is foolish. Hence the term "Fools for Christ." I didn't mean to sound offensive I was just trying to be a little abrupt. My apologies.

Here is a passage in the Bible for anyone who is willing to read it which further explains the concept behind being a "Fool for Christ" 1 Corinthians 1:18-30. After reading this passage for the first time and having understood its meaning with some assistance I found the idea very profound.

Of course I can say there is no God, watch.... There is no God. Does it make it true??? No. Belief is based upon opinion, when enough people share the same "belief" they have become a religion. Most "atheists" that I've met are actually agnostic and just don't know it. Agnostic merely means "not knowing" in latin. It basically means that they realise that they cannot know or not know if there is a God and leave it until they can know, die, or God comes down sees them.
I have no religion, and I don't "believe" in any god/gods that may be, or have been. I am agnostic. God/s may exist, but I have no proof for or against. As for the people who do believe there is a God, its just an opinion that you happen to share with other people, not a indication of proof that God exists simply because you all say so. So believe anything you like, so long as you don't preach to the "heathens", persecute people, or generally back up your arguments with God, we'll all get along just fine.

First of all: An atheist is not someone who denies the existence of God, he or she disbelieves the existence of gods - meaning denying the existence of deities.
As certain Christians deny the existence of alternative gods, such as Buddha, Allah, the Hindu-gods etc - they are themselves denying the existence of god - and are hence atheists.
Just within Christianity there are denomnations that claim their belief-system and/or dogma to be the only right and correct one, thereby stating that other denominations are false and wrong. In other words, they are saying that what the "others" believe in is wrong, which again implies the denial of another belief-system - and thus denial of god, which culminates into atheism.
Just as anyone cannot prove the non-existence of a deity, neither can the deity's existence be proved.
To say that only a fool could say there is no god is just as foolish as to say that there is a god. Religious and philosophical beliefs that somehow influence one's (daily) life is a personal matter and should not be brought up for ridicule, nor should these views be oppressed upon others.
Have a nice day.

Let me put it this way. I don't believe that a god exists because there is no evidence to support that there is one. Period.
Do you believe that there is a magical invisible elf flying around mount Everest that magically made the earth come into existance with magical elf dust? No. Because there is no evidence of it right? But there is just as much evidence for that as there is your God and Allah and the Hindu Gods and the native American Gods and all of the other thousands that have been made up throughout history.
I don't feel obligated to prove your God out of existance. The burdon of proof is on you.
All I will say is that if there is a higher intellegence that caused the universe to come into existance, it either does not know we exist or doesn't give a rat's butt about what is going on here.
I hope this helps.

Well, just to let you know, your little line, "Only a fool could say there is no God" is a tad-bit offensive.
As to the meat of your question. I hold a scientific world-view. I try to hold as few beliefs as possible.
Example: Do you believe the sun will rise tomorrow? I don't. I have a theory in my head that the earth revolves and rotates around the sun. From my theory, I can predict that the sun will appear on the eastern horizon at a specified time. I test my theory with every sunrise and sunset.
There is no evidence for a god or gods. You can not frame a testable theory for the existence of supernatural beings. Therefore, I lack belief that those beings exist.
Should I be proven wrong, I would be more than happy to change my stance. Till then, I lack belief.

There being a god (especially one with a specific set of attributes like an organized religion will have you believe) is just one of infinite possibilities. I think that athiests are saying that they don't believe in god to the exclusion of what they feel are more logical possibilities. You can't believe everything, so you have to pick and choose. Athiests are just saying that they believe so greatly in science that they don't have a place for god since the chance is so remote.

My reason for being an athiest is looking back on history. Think about greek gods, they had a lot. They had like one for weather, the underworld ect. but we know how weather works now, and how the sun works ect. have you ever thought that in like a thousand years, that people would prove that there is no god. people just created a god so there wouldn't be any unknowns. I find that it helps if you just believe in yourself. that's all it comes down to. Praying to me, is like a crutch. If you use it enough, then you may become dependant on it.
Hope this answers your question
PS i do wish that there was another name for people who are not religious/don't believe in god. athiest sounds so pessimistic.

What makes you so sure there IS a GOD? What? The morning dew? The humming bird? Sunsets? A cool breeze on a hot day? What evidence do you have to support the existence of GOD? What evidence do you have to support Creationism??
Whadda ya got, faith? Is that your proof??? If that's the best you can do, I wouldn't advise you pursuing a career in teaching people about GOD.

Your premise is incorrect. As there is and never has been a single shred of hard, indisputable evidence for the existence of a 'God' (and to which one are you referring? There are hundreds in human mythology) then the onus of proof falls on those that claim a 'God' exists to prove that theory. As you are absolutely unable to do this your 'God' can only exist in the realms of faith, not the reality of hard scientific scrutiny.

Its only logical to lack a belief in something that has never been proven. I lack a belief in your god just as you lack a belief in say invisible flying unicorns in your basement. Until I can prove to you that they exist you are lacking a belief in them.
No matter how much I want to believe those basement dwelling unicorns exist, having faith in them is not proof. I could say that I feel their existence, but you would probably just assume I am crazy.

Ummm... What basis do you have for a belief in god? I mean, by definition don't you have to rely purely on faith? Which unlike science or logic isn't based on material evidence or proof?
Here's some websites if you're interested in atheism though:
http://atheism.about.com/
http://www.positiveatheism.org/writ/dawkins3.htm (The Improbability of God)
http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/
http://www.celebatheists.com
Refering to people who don't share your belief as fools seems kind of narrow minded.
