Parvo is not caused by not keeping a dog up to date on shots. And can be contracted several ways. Most dogs do die from it, but there are some that pull through. Good Luck

so many people think that most dogs die from parvo, but actually there is a 50/50 survival rate. i've known quite a few dogs that contracted the virus and have survived. of course, the sooner it was caught the better the prognosis. if it was treated in the late stages, then it's a 20/80 chance of survival. i hope the puppy is alrite, oh and sometimes a puppy can actually get the virus even if it has had some of it's shots. the vaccine for parvo is actually administered in a few different visits, so there is a time frame where the puppy can have a low immunity to it. it also depends on whether or not antibodies were still in it's system from the mother...anywho it's pretty rare that that happens, but it does. again, i hope everything goes well!!

My dog is 14 yrs old and when he was a puppy he had parvo. My husband and I didn't know each other back than and hes puppy had parvo 10 yrs ago. They both lived.Hes dog is 10 and mine 14 .They both had parvo. If you catch it time your dog will make it through. Both of our dogs are happy elderly dogs now.Your friend is a great person for spending the money on her dog and taking it to the hospital.Good things come to good people so keep praying for her dog and tell her that some dogs do okay after parvo. Also dont let peole make you feel bad my dog had his parvo shot whenI got him from the pound and he still ended up with parvo.

It's very deadly. I'm sorry for the puppy and your friend. Sometimes they pull thru, if they caught it in time. Will be praying for little Romey.
Getting puppies & dogs the parvo vaccine is very important, sometimes the momma had parvo & its passed to the puppies. If the mom was vaccinated, the puppies would be immune for a while, until they're old enough to get vaccinated. It's a horrible disease.

Has it ever had its Parvo shot? If it has been around other dogs tell the owners and have them see their vet immediatly so as for their dogs to not get sick or for the parvo to spread. I hope it works out for you and your dog
P.S.: althought there are slim chances for a puppy living through parvo there is always hope. Keep your head up but don't get your hopes up either. Be prepared for whatever may happen

Parvo is passed in feces. Dogs sniff each other and go potty where other dogs have been. Parvo can live in a yard for a year.
Simply by vaccinating your pup and keeping away from other poop untill fully vaccinated will ensure your dog wouldn't get it.
They can die.

It's generally not a good prognosis. Romey will be in my prayers. I hope she beats the odds.
