VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA
Vietnam Veterans of America is a non-profit, congressionally chartered veterans service organization, dedicated to helping Vietnam-era veterans and their families obtain all the benefits and services to which they are entitled. Our service representatives, however, represent veterans from all wars and eras. VVA is located at 8605 Cameron Street, Suite 400, Silver Spring, MD. 20910. Contact us at: (301) 585-4000 (telephone); (301) 585-0519 (fax); veteransbenefits@vva.org (e-mail).
In addition, VVA’s PTSD/Substance Abuse Committee is a valuable source of information about PTSD treatment programs for both the individual veteran and his or her family. You can contact the Committee through the www.vva.org website.
Many other veterans service organizations offer a wide range of services. Most states operate a department of veterans affairs and many states have a network of county veterans representatives. To locate accredited representatives, call or visit the nearest VA regional office.

pltoper1 - how sad it really is. I am a veteran but not of the US. And even in my country when veterans made the same claim you are making would you believe it but the governments of Britain, Canada, Australia and unfortunately too the good old US of A complained to my government for even trying to listen to the veteran representatives. Guess who was behind all this? You guessed it - an ungrateful civilian population led by the ever evil multinational corporation. In short the two entities that benefit most from the blood of your comrades.
Your question asked, "Why has America FORSAKEN its VETS..." May I correct you there for a second, America hasn't forsaken the vets. It has given them the shaft, the ole thank you and now scram, the what do you still want - I gave you a purple heart now didn't I(?) - please tell me to shut up if you think I'm wrong. I went to college in America for which I am eternally grateful. And how do I show that? Well sir believe me but I as an African of no great means have put more than five American kids through college. Do I need congress to honor me for it ? No sir, what I need is for congress to see how grateful those kids are today for the assistance a stranger gave to them. And believe me sir they really are fine gentlemen today - one is a commercial airline pilot, one a manager at a major department store, one a car sales manager, one a high school teacher, one a police officer - yes sir a California Highway Patrol officer....
These gentleman represent the civilian population of America and I represented the provider of security to America - you fellas, the military (Coast Guard, National Guard, Navy, Army, US Marine Corps, Airforce, Border Patrol & Police officers in time of war...). Just imagine how I'd be feeling today if these guys had given me the shaft ie. taken the money and promise of lifetime security with nothing more than a "yeah well, nobody asked you to do it for me..."
As long as America is ungrateful to your comrades the only hope I believe vets have is for those of you that have made it after conflict to do something about fixin' the mess. The John McCains, the Tom Bradly's, the John Kerry's, the John Murther's and yes even the current commander-in-chief... they can take directly from the treasury and create a for profit investment fund that works as a trust fund for all vets. Hallie Burton doesn't need another penny from America. Hell you've got more than enough qualified vets to form companies that would provide the services currently done by Hallie Burton. Any government contract outside America should be handled only by vets - you've earned it. Besides who's better qualified to work in hot zones?
Vets have never asked for handouts. All I'm saying is that if it's good enough for Dick Chaney's cronies it is more than good enough for veterans. One doesn't have to be political to see where this is going. In Africa ignored vets usually rebel against the unappreciative public. Thank goodness Americans are more civilized than that.
I thank you and your comrades for all you have done for your country and for other nations too. God bless you all.

You should ask the democrats why they have forsaken the Vets from NAM!
As far as I see it the politicians both republican and demarcate should not be paid for doing there job as elected officials....that money should be used too help pay the soldiers past...present and future......they are the ones who have to go fight the politicians wars!

It will be the same, this nation does not take care of its own at any level. For a historic perspective see the Bonus Marches.

the only reason for that is all the grateful people who live in America dont have a clue . They must out number the ones who do care or it would'nt be that way.
