Get any of the cleaners which contain "orange oil". It's great for anything greasy or gummy in clothes, hair, etc.
Spray it on a paper towel and knead it into the gum in the hair. After a little while you will find the gum softening. Then use more paper towels or napkins to pick the gum out of the hair. Apply more of the orange cleaner if needed.
After you get all of it out, wash the hair with a good shampoo to get the orange oil off and get rid of the orange smell. You might find this easier to do in the shower if it is your own hair, or over a kitchen sink if it is in a child's hair.
DO NOT GET IT in your eyes.

This has happened to me before. The only sure fire way to get rid of it, is to cut the piece of hair that has the gum on it, off. Otherwise using other things such as peanut butter can just spread the mess, making it worse. Your hair will grow back, not to worry your not going to go bald because u cut some hair off.

Massage peanut butter into the gum and then wash. May have to repeat several times. This really works.

Ice, Peanut butter,
I remember when I had beautiful golden blonde waist length hair when I was in the 10th grade (it took forever for my hair to grow that long!) and anyways, I was sitting in English class watching Romeo & Juilet and then all of the sudden I felt something in my hair and it was a HUMONGOUS wad of gum in my precious long hair that took forever to grow, anyways I ran out of the room like a little kid bawling my eyes out. I went to the nurses office she tried EVERYTHING to get the huge wad of gum out nothing worked so she said you're gonna have to cut it out. I cried and cried I had like 22 inches chopped off maybe more because I had all om beautiful hair chooped off. Ever since I can't grow my hair out anymore that long, and it makes me mad because it was thick long and blonde and gorgeous hair but ever since those assholes threw the huge wad of gum in my hair it hasn't been quite the same :O(. Good Luck getting the gum out of your hair I hope you don't go thourgh what I went thourgh < :O)
