Today I was given this advice which I did not understand clearly. For some reason Im not giving the context here. These are the exact words. "You are a young person. Dont pick." What does that mean?

Most likely it means don't dwell on the bad things. Don't pick it apart.

I would say "don't pick" means don't be so picky and choosy.
Since I don't know the whole story, this is the best I can come up with.

I think in this context it is most likely that you were being told not to be pedantic.
