Rather than being controlled by alcohol (or other worldly things) be ruled by the Spirit of God.

Well you know when you're full of wine, it takes over your actions, and your body, you can feel it, and it controls you. When you are drunk with wine you do many things that you would not normally do.
Instead of being controlled this way, be filled with the Holy Spirit. Instead of being controlled by being drunk, be controlled by the Holy Spirit, and let the Holy Spirit control your actions and your body, which is all good. Does this make sense? Hope it does some......

Ephesians 5:18 starts out with the command not to be drunk. I used to read that verse and wonder, "Why put these two so seemingly different commands in one verse? 'Don't be drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit'? Then I realized: to be drunk with wine is to be filled with wine, under the control or influence of wine in much the same way that we are to be filled with, under the control or influence of the Spirit. The two parts of the verse go together very well.

When we are drunk with wine, we take in a foreign substance which has an effect upon our brains, and as we begin to think differently, under the influence of the alcohol, we begin to talk differently and act differently. So also when we allow the Holy Spirit to fill us, He begins by renewing our minds, our thinking comes under the influence and control of the Holy Spirit, and when our thinking changes, our speaking and acting changes. We are under the Spirit's control and influence.

Paul's command in Eph 5:18 is a present tense imperative which indicates "be always filled, controlled, and influenced by the Spirit," or "keep on being filled by the Spirit." Not a momentary action, but a constant condition.

On the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles, people thought that they were drunk.

I have been high, both on the Holy Spirit and on wine. I have also been crazy in love and high on that. There are some similarities in that they are all 'high'. High means happy, like floating, even kind of giddy. Like being high makes me feel like laughing. hehehe so that is the similarities.

The differences are,, too much alcohol kills brain cells,, and the Holy Spirit heals brain cells. Too much alcohol will cause a terrible hangover , but the Holy Spirit makes us even sharper and more aware of things. Alcohol fogs up our thinkin and judgement, while the Holy Spirit gives us better judgement. Being in love is happy too, and sometimes affects our judgement.

So the saying means, if you want to be real happy alcohol is not the best way to go,,, the Holy Spirit is. :) And we can't do both,, got to choose one. so choose a healed liver instead of a ruined one,, and that means the Holy Spirit and not alcohol.

It means dont get drunk. It means you can get too much of alchohal. You cant ,however, get too much Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our spirits teacher. He is a part of God just as Jesus and the Father is. When we learn anything pertaining to God, the bible or even somthing wrong or wright in our own lives, as christians, the Holy Spirit revealed it to us. Christians always have the Holy Spirit with them but im not sure if a christian is always filled with the Holy Spirit, i know im not. Once a Christian confesses all their sins, then we are able to recieve fully, the Holy Spirit. The fulness comes and goes but you feel it when its there.

look up acts 2:38... speaks of peter telling everyone to repent and be baptised and to RECEIVE the holy spirit. The person speaking at your church meant that you should receive the gift of the holyghost or spirit instead of doing worldly things like drinking wine.

This is God's encouragement to us to 'drink in' His Holy Spirit. Allow Him to fill your heart, soul, and mind.

Wine, especially the powerful stuff, can cause us to get SERIOUSLY drunk. This leads to more sin - debachery, for an example. If we are filled with the Holy Spirit, our hearts, minds and souls tend to lean toward things that are Godly in nature.

I hope this makes sense to you.

This part of the propaganda brochure deals with the fact that the early kings and noblemen allowed their workers to drink during the day so long as they refrained from drinking to the point of drunkeness. They couldn't prevent their peasents from drinking, because there was no clean water to speak of in medieval europe. Just another look into how the bible has been translated to where it serves anothers' needs.
