The situation is this.
When my son died suddenly of Meningitis 4 years ago, my boyfriend (of about 2 years) moved in to be with me, as I was left on my own. At the time, I felt as though we were meant to be together, that God had led him to me, and he always seemed to be there when I needed him
I had just left my church, a local Vineyard church, for various reasons, and my partner was at a local, independent, Charismatic church - one that I used to go to, but had left and did not want to go back to. Now we are both looking for a church where we can both go and be accepted.
I am looking for a Christian church that is charismatic, in that it has a certain amount of freedom of worship, yet at the same time it is not fundamentalist or conservative in its views - one that has an intellectual and questionging, liberal approach. Does any such Christian church exist?

Thanks David J, but not allowing people to be members of your church, is hardly being loving, is it?
Some of you do seem to be lacking the Spirit of love behind the message, which is what Jesus kept pointing out. I think my idea of love is more loving than yours.
Think about the Pharisees and the Saducces, they were all for rules and narrow-mendedness, and look what Jesus said to them!

Bill G. - I do believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, but many passages are parables and illustrations and are not meant ot be taken literally. God and the Bible are not cold and harsh - it is your ideas that are. God is loving and the Bible is an amazing book which does contain the word of God. I also believe that God accepts us where we are in our stage of faith.

First of all, congratulations for getting on the site, being English i think we must be filtered or swamped. It's turning into little america, all my replies are american, can't understand em, always recommending american stuff, this is yahoo.co.uk
Anyway, are'nt most baptist churches carismatic, methodists are incredibly liberal, or if you want anything goes try the Alpha course... no offence, they are everywhere.
God bless you and your partner, no offence,
i could not imagine the pain of loosing a child, may the Lord have mercy on you and bless your family, i hope you find a warm, nurturing, patient, sympathetic church, i'm also in need and searching,
I'm looking south also, i think what we all need is Love.

Sorry to hear about the death of your son.
And sorry to be the one to tell you this, but every church ought to be a fundamentalist church - Because what that means is that it is a church that is a bible believing church.
A place where there is a liberal approach would be one that you could call "Christianity Light"
Hey if you are going to church go to one that studies/belives/ teaches the bible word for word, precept upon precept. If you are in a relationship that is one that God wouldn't approved of, fix it... , get right with the Lord. Find a place where you can study the bible. Then you won't feel convicted by a fundamentalist church.
Being a Christian means that we take on the identity of Christ.
Going to church isn't so we can feel good about a religion it is to feed our relationship with Christ Jesus who died for our sins.

If you don't feel the need to believe what the bible says, then why do you feel the need to attend a church and water down the other believers? I think Jesus made his point very clear about living with umarried partners when he talked to the woman at the well. If you can't accept the what the founder of your religion teaches, then leave your religion. This may sound cold and harsh, but I hate to tell you, the bible and christianity is often cold and harsh, Chirstianity is a religion of rules and people will be going to hell. Wake up!

My church accepts everyone.
Charismatic, yes.
Fundamentalist, well, it depends on what you mean. The fundamental of Christianity is love, so I suppose yes. We are multi-racial, multi-sexual orientation, classless. We have members from all over the world, rich, poor, ex drug addicts, ex homeless, ex prisoners.
Conservative? I would say more socialist. We believe in equality and sharing.
Freedom of worship? Definitely. We have a number of bands, our own music. In my congregation we have a lady in her seventies and worships with flags. We have many youth who dance a kind of Gospel pogo!!
Intellectual? We have the whole breadth of human intelligence, intellectual is not a good word, because it excludes those that have difficulty with the more cerebral matters
Questioning? Certainly. We are constantly studying Scripture to make sure we are following the teachings of Christ and His apostles.
Who are we? The modern Jesus army

I stay in Florida, and that i lived in Georgia for 8 years. there is multiple LDS and Catholic church homes in the two states. there is likewise Lutherans, Methodists, seventh Day Adventists, Church of God, Pentecostals, Apostolics, Episcopalians, Jehovah's Witnesses, Presbyterians, or perhaps Unitarians... however in Georgia, the Unitarians purely met as quickly as a month. not sure how many times they meet right here. whilst transforming into up in Florida, I even have - - Attended Catholic college - long previous to a seventh Day Adventist summer season Camp - long previous to a Episcopal camp that holds an educational enrichment application for a week each and each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days for interior of sight colleges. multiple human beings get married there, too. - long previous to Southern Baptist, non-denominational, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Church of God, and Pentecostal Sunday centers. Oh! and there is likewise some Greek Orthodox and jap Orthodox church homes right here in Florida. And my brother is LDS.

I think any church in America should accept you and your partner. Churches should welcome everyone with open arms. Churches are not to judge you but to tell you the word of God. Keep looking for a church and don't give up. My family probably i tried a dozen churches until we found one that could be our church home. Good luck!
I'm sorry you lost your son.

hate the sin, love the sinner. I would accept you and your partner at my Southern Baptist church. this does not mean however that I would accept what you do. you would not be allowed to become a member of the church, though. this is due to the fact that you are living in contradiction to what God can do in your life. I also don't feel that alcoholics (not occasional drinkers), wife beaters, and other sinners shouldn't be members until they change their ways. My condolences for the loss of your son. I cannot imagine the pain that you went through. you are in my prayers.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I ask you, are you are genuinely saved by Christ, and by Him alone? And are you sure that you are not still in the "gall of bitterness"? Now, you are the one who said that you are living in sin and seeking "freedom of worship". Then understand this: In the scriptures the Lord said,
FIRST SAMUEL:15:22: And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
Now Christ Himself also said,
ST.JOHN :14:21: He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
And,
ST.JOHN :14:24: He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
And again He also said,
ST.MATTHEW:19:17: And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
And again our gracious Lord said,
ST.MATTHEW:7:21: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
This is why the Apostles said:
2 CORINTHIANS:13:5: Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
And again it is said;
SECOND PETER:1:10: Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
Now all the elect of God, who are the Lord's prisoners, are prisoners unto His Holiness. We are not free to sin. For our Holy and Gracious Lord says,
PSALMS :89:30-32: If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
HEBREWS:12:6: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
HEBREWS:12:8: But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
And now the Lord Perfects His statement when He says,
FIRST JOHN:3:9: Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
And also,
2 CORINTHIANS:7:1: Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Therefore, the conclusion of the matter is: It is impossible for a truly saved individual to sin against God, without being severely punished. Secondly, it is impossible for a true believer to sin against Christ without a conscience. Any person, whoever they are, who goes about sinning strongly, openly and confidently, against the whole nature of God, is not likely to be saved, so be warned. Almost the whole of the old testament is about God's anger, judgment and punishment towards the Children of Israel for their disobedience, rebellion and iniquities. Therefore, let anyone who names the name of Christ, let Him so walk. In Jesus Name Amen.
