Freecycle to unimportant items. (Look in Yahoo communities)
Craig's list is a good idea, but see f your newspaper will allow free listing of items under a certain price. Ours allows selling things for under $100 for free.
I am doing the same thing, getting rid of tons, giving it to other Freecycle members or to friends. Whatever is left over, I donate to the YMCA.

Do you have any place there that takes items on consignment? This way you don't have to spend your time selling and you play them a small % to sell for you and you make money too. Can you advertise and sell the merchandise inside your home? Like a tag sale, where you stick a tag with the price on the items and see if it sells. If you do this, make sure to have a friend or neighbor there with you for your own safety.

Do like an Estate Sale: Put a sign outside on the street and they come into your house. Have someone there to help you watch the place. Anything you want to keep, any valuables, put it aside & lock it up in an off-limits room.

Offer a friend some dough to let you have a garage sale at their home, preferably someone close by.

Check out online garage sales, or better yet, look for groups on Yahoo that trade goods and services. www.freecycle.org can help you find a local chapter of their organization, and many keep their lists on Yahoo groups.
Good luck!

you could probably sell some on ebay. or list that you have thing's for sale name a few then just put something like call for more. i saw an ad in the paper like that once. they just wrote if you need it we probably got it. that's a good way less hassle than a yard sale too.

Have you ever considered donating some stuff to local women's, children's or veteran's charities?
