you can develop a very strong stomach that hangs out when it is relaxed. the benefit of holding your stomach in is that you look more like you have a flat stomach, which some people say is more attractive. many people are also slightly ignorant about the human body too and if your stomach hangs out at all they will think you are fat. but in itself it serves no purpose other than an aesthetic one. don't make the mistake of thinking all people you see with a buddha belly are weak and out of shape, and don't think that just because someone has a flat stomach they worked for it, either, some people just look that way while others don't.

it helps to keep the stomach muscles tight so when you walk and hold it in it helps to firm it up.

holding your stomach in activates the muscles in that area, and when they are activated over a period of time, they are strengthened... similar to when people lift weights to tone their arms!

It will just help to strengthen them- and strengthen your core. If you keep in the practice of holding it in, after a while you won't feel like you are holding it in- it will be holding itself in.
