Yes you only charge the type of batteries that came with the charger (same brand and mAh power). UNLESS...it states otherwise in the manual.

There are bad combinations, but it will work OK with a little knowledge.

I'd guess you are talking about NiMH batteries. You can charge either NiMH or NiCd batteries in this type of charger. Although I wouldn't bother with NiCd unless you are stuck with them.

There are slow chargers and fast chargers. (Of course, there are different speeds within these two groups.) Any slow charger will work fine unless it isn't slow enough. If its charge time is 4 hours or longer, then you can charge anything (NiMH or NiCd) in it.

The problem is that some new NiMH batteries and their chargers can recharge in 15 or 30 minutes. This is way too fast for some older or cheaper batteries and will damage the batteries.

as long via fact the recent charger is for an identical chemistry or rated for the two chemistries (a clever charger). the a number of chemistries are NiCd or nickle cadmium, NiMH or nickle metallic hydride, and Li-Ion or lithium ion. The technique of the cells is fairly an identical. The means is desperate by ability of the quantity of chemical compounds interior the cellular that's determine by ability of the size. A C cellular has a given means which would be comparable to long because it fairly is an identical chemistry. some manufacturers only "around up" the means of their cells or out-suited exagerate (examine lie) approximately their means. examine the specs to your charger and as long because it fairly is an identical or lists your previous battery chemistry in it specs you're wonderful.
