James, Congrats!!! I do have a very strong testimony, but I won't bear it here (don't cast your pearls before swine). I just wanted to say congrats, and God Bless.

Don't listen to anyone who says that all you need is to accept Christ to be saved. I'm sure you have already gained a testimony of Christ and his gospel, and that is why you are getting baptized. Just remember that Christ himself was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. There are many ordinances in the gospel, and they are all important and necessary. Any advice to the contrary is literally the work of the devil trying to steer you away from the right path.
I want to share with you that I know absolutely that Heavenly Father is real, he listens to your prayers and he knows you and loves you dearly. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior, and that the gospel and the plan of salvation are not only true, but make total logical sense. As you continue on in your membership in the church, just keep close to the Lord through prayer and lots of scripture study. I testify that the Holy Ghost can be your constant companion. It is such a blessing to realize that you can have a member of the Godhead with you at all times to be your guide and comforter. I know that the Book of Mormon was truly written by ancient prophets who lived here on the American continents, and that the accounts in it really happened. I know that Joseph Smith really had the first vision. Just as he prayed sincerely to know which Church was true, you can receive the answer to any question or worry you have if you are sincere in asking Heavenly Father and have not already decided in your mind what the answer is.
Stay close to the Lord, and keep active in the Church. You will be blessed immeasurably. At times it may feel like all the world is combining against you, but you will be happier than you have ever been in your life. After you are baptized, work to be able to go to the temple, and get your patriarchal blessing-- a special blessing from Heavenly Father where He gives you specific guidance and blessings for your life.

Hello,
I can tell you that the lord Jesus Christ works his miracles through the missionary's of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
It took me twenty years to finally get in to the waters of baptism. I had a lot of Elders in my home and would push them away, but I can tell you when God wants you to come unto him he will never give up. I love the Lord and I am so glad to be a member of his only true church. I have been a member for about 9 months now.
When i was baptized it seemed like the whole host of heaven was there. The spirit was so strong. You can tell in life that when you are doing the right thing. You feel so good. On the other hand the bad one does not want you to do good, so he will try to stop you. Don't give in you are a Child of God and he is blessing you right now. Stay true and faithful and he will always guide you and lead you down that right road that you are taking. I bear you my testimony, I do so testify, that God lives. The Church Of Jesus Christ is here on the earth today and you have found it. I do so testify that Christ lives. I know that the Church is true! I know that the savior is the guide in my life today. I love him and I am so glad that he did not give up on me. I know he loves me and has lead me to his Church. I bear this testimony to you and I leave it with you. In the Sacred name of Jesus Christ Amen.

My own serious investigation of Mormonism began during my sophomore year in college. When my well-meaning friends learned I was investigating the church, they made sure I got all the “anti” stuff then available. Anyway, investigation and research are easier on a university campus, and I spent a lot of my spare time investigating Mormonism during my sophomore year. In a funny sort of way, I actually owe my success in life to Fawn Brody. In those days, her bio of Joseph Smith probably was the best of the “anti” bunch. I learned a lot about how to read critically, check footnotes and analyze arguments.
Frankly, it didn’t take a lot of work to discover that Brody was disingenuous at best. From that, I went on to similar works. If one is willing to fairly consider both sides of the question, they’ll come down on the side of the church every time. In my experience, most people get in trouble with their testimony when they look at post graduate attacks through the prism of a primary testimony.

After spending over forty years with my apologist hobby, I’ve developed this law:

“The position of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is so strong its enemies must dissemble, distort and deceive in order to have much to say against it.”

This is a bad site to ask this, being there are a lot of Mormon bashers on here, but here's my testimony. I know my Heavenly Father lives, and he answers prayers. At a point in my life I wanted to commit suicide. I was in the living room with a knife to slice my wrists. I was talking to my Father in Heaven telling him I was sorry for letting him down, that I didn't feel worthy enough to exist, I asked him if there was a true meaning to my life to please show me, and during it all I feel asleep in the place where I was. I woke to a knock at the door and it was the sister missionaries telling me that they felt they were needed here. After they left I called my ex-boyfriend and told him who just left and he said the Elders just left his place too.Not too long after that I too was baptized into the church and married to my ex. We have been married for 8 years now and are very happy. Congratulations on your up coming baptism, I wish you all the best.

Is baptism necessary for salvation?
No. Faith in Jesus is sufficient for salvation. You don't have to do anything. Christ has done it all. However, baptism is very important and all believers should be baptized. If you refuse baptism after salvation, I would doubt your conversion.
There are Christian denominations that believe baptism is necessary for salvation. The arguments used, on the surface, seem to be powerful. However, upon examination, baptism is found to occur after conversion, and is not in any way a cause or part of it. Take, for example, Acts 10:44-47. While Peter was witnessing, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message...and they were hearing them speaking in tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered, "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?"
This passage shows that baptism happens after salvation. How do we know they were saved? They were speaking in tongues -- which is a gift from God (1 Cor. 14) to believers and they were exalting God. Non-believers do not exalt God. Also, Peter said they had received the Holy Spirit. That is only for Christians, and it happened before baptism. (Note: speaking in tongues is simply a sign of salvation. It is not necessary that a Christian speak in tongues as a proof of salvation. Not all speak in tongues (1 Cor. 12:30).
Another set of verses applicable to this issue is 1 Cor. 1:17. Paul says, "For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel..." The gospel is what saves, and it is explained in 1 Cor. 15:1-4. Baptism is not part of the gospel; it is something that the believer does after salvation.
Baptism is only a symbol of that which saves, and symbols don't save.

Congratulations on your decision, it always makes me happy when people accept the gospel. This church is Christ's church and it is led by direct revelation from God to his prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. Always remember the Spirit that you have felt when you discovered the truth and were baptized. KristyCristy likes to share a lot of scriptures about being saved but she conveniently forgot to share Matthew 10:22 when Jesus says, "he that endureth to the end shall be saved." I am happy for you and welcome you to Christ's church.

Right on, James. Way to take things on in your life. Definitely a difficult decision; that sounds like you have already made.

Remember that the opposition will certainly begin. Because of your decision, certain people will not agree... and perhaps throw negative things your way.

Just remember how you felt when you decided to do what you did.

I did the same thing when I was 17 and it was a big mistake, and a very bizarre spiritual experience which was disturbing.

I wanted to learn the Word of God and be reconciled to God and instantly the Mormons were right there inviting me back to the church I was raised in. Not a coincidence - it was a set up because my family had made secret spiritual vows in the Mormon temples that all their prosterity (all future generations) would be Mormon. Satan takes these vows seriously and I was sucked in and getting ready to marry a Mormon missionary (who, by the way, wanted to make sure as the first wife I would approve of his future polygamy.)

Being a Mormon means you are separated from God and trying to earn your way "back" to God. If you read the Bible, it doesn't work that way. Also, Mormons compromise the Word of God and do not experience the power of it. I left the Mormon church because there was nothing about Jesus there and because the bishop couldn't answer my questions. In fact he admitted to not knowing the Bible very well. I researched and prayed and became convinced that Mormonism is counterfiet Christianity and Satanically inspired. 27 years later, I still stand by this.

On Good Friday 1985 Jesus appeared to me in my Foursquare church during the sermon about the cross. I heard the words "all power and authority is given to me", and I received the revelation that He is God. I repented because at the same time I instantly received the revelation of the evil occult powers oppressing my life, the danger I was in, my sinful nature, and that I had compromised the Word of God. Jesus saved me and set me free and that was my true conversion experience - something Mormonism or Mormon baptism cannot give you. I believe I became a Christian because as a young Mormon child, the Baptists prayed with me to receive Jesus into my heart.

Ac 2:21
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ro 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

8:12
Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

Ac 15:11
But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Ac 16:31
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Ro 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Who are you going to believe, Kate and the Mormons, or the Word of God?
