Whenever I answer a question like this, I'm deeply aware that someone may be reading this who is seriously contemplating suicide—and I would do everything in my power to convince them not to take that final, drastic step. With Christ there is always hope.

God loves them; He loves them so much that Jesus Christ was willing to die on the cross for their salvation. And others care about them, as well (even if they have a hard time believing it). Suicide is never God's will, and even in the midst of life's worst storms we can look to Christ and discover that He truly is "an anchor for the soul, firm and secure" (Hebrews 6:19). The first step back from the brink of suicide is to turn to Christ and open our hearts to Him.

Suicide is always a tragedy—but in itself it is not the unpardonable sin. The only sin God cannot pardon is the sin of rejecting Him. you the fact that you are important in the sight of God. He says, "You are precious to me ... and I love you" (Isaiah 43:4, TLB). The very reason Jesus Christ came to earth to offer Himself in sacrifice is so that we might have life in all its fullness, and it is His desire that we be set free from depression, fear, frustration, and hurt so that we might experience this abundant life.
The most important step you can take is to anchor your life solidly to Jesus Christ by committing your life without reserve to Him. God loves you, and He wants you to be part of His family. All you have to do is turn to Christ and ask Him to come into your heart as your Lord and Savior. Have you made that commitment to Christ? Turn to Him now—and then you will have a new desire to live a life with purpose.

Thoughts of taking one's own life do not come from God but from the evil one, Satan. Jesus said, "The thief's (Satan's) purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness" (John 10:10, TLB). We are warned in 1 Peter 5:8-10, "Be careful—watch out for attacks from Satan, your great enemy. He prowls around like a hungry, roaring lion, looking for some victim to tear apart. Stand firm when he attacks. Trust the Lord ... He personally will come and pick you up, and set you firmly in place, and make you stronger than ever" (TLB).

It is important that you determine to give all your problems to Jesus and "cast all your anxiety on him" (1 Peter 5:7). Refuse to listen to the devil, who is the "father of lies" (John 8:44), and make a total surrender of your life to Christ as Savior and Lord. Then center your attention upon His love for you and His wonderful plan for your life, and rest in the assurance that Jesus will "never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5b, NKJV).

Also, remember that God often uses other people to help us. Many who struggle with suicidal feelings benefit from talking with someone who can pray with them and help sort things out. We would urge you to counsel with a Gospel-preaching pastor in your area. You may also benefit from the advice of a professional Christian counselor. For referrals to individual Christian counselors near you, you may contact the following: Focus on the Family, telephone: (719) 531-3400, or the Narramore Christian Foundation, telephone: (818) 288-7000, or RAPHA, telephone: 1-800-383-HOPE. Arranging an appointment with a medical doctor would also help to determine whether feelings of depression and discouragement have a physical basis. Above all, keep your hope fixed in the One who says, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5b).

Is this some suicidal fantasy? Like, if you die, then you'll actually be happier in the afterlife than you were in life?

Come on! You know it's not true. Whether you have an afterlife or not, whether it's good or bad, it's bad to commit suicide. If an afterlife is a continuation of your current life, then how would you be happy dead if you were depressed alive? It's totally f*cked-up depressed thinking. As much trouble as it is, you'll just have to do what it takes to make your life better. You can't kill yourself on the slim chance that it might be better--it's not the right option. Just make your current life better and stop trying to justify the whole heaven-hell thing. Life isn't about the afterlife--it's about what you do right now, today, while you're still alive.

God would be pissed if he gave you a life to make the most of and you tossed it aside because you didn't think it was good enough. That's so petty and rude! I mean, God might forgive you...but you'd still be dead since you squandered the opportunity you have right now. I don't know what happens after death and neither does anybody here, despite what they believe. So get some therapy and some meds...heaven can wait.

If by Christian you mean you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and are born again (believe in his death for your sins, burial and resurrection and have repented), then yes, you still go to heaven.

Suicide is a sin. It falls under the same category as all your other sins--they are forgiven and will not keep you out of heaven. God may have something to say about it when you get there though!

The argument is that if the last thing you do is suicide then you have a sin you have not confessed or repented from which means you don't go to heaven. To believe that, you have to believe that there is something you can do to lose your salvation. I don't believe that there is anything we can do to "undo" salvation, even an act that is clearly in violation of the value God places on each life.

no, because you have no way of repenting. You are murdering, without asking God for forgiveness. Then again, how do we know what God will say to us on our Judgment Day? Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It's really sad that someone would come to that point in their life, but many do. I would hope God wouldn't be totally yes or no on such a serious decision we make in life, that there would be a maybe, from a gray area, like how the person got to the point of suicide, and they really weren't in their right mind (because of alcohol or drugs or mental illness) when they chose to take their own life.

Someone i know lost their father that way, and they talked to a nun who said that the person didn't go to hell. Then again, the nun is a Catholic, and they believe in purgatory, which is a temporary hell, to cleanse the soul of any unforgiven sins. I would assume that if you were to talk to a clergy person of another faith, maybe Jewish, Christian, or Muslim, they could have a different opinion on where that person will go after death.

I hope you're not thinking of this, or anyone you know is thinking of this. If so, please get help by talking to a counselor or priest or someone!

Are you Catholic? If you believe as the Catholics do, no, you will not go to heaven because you have no time after committing the sin of Suicide, to ask the Lord for forgiveness. If you are a nondenominational Christian, I would still wonder about the outcome of your choice. And why would you even ask such a thing? Tomorrow is always a clean slate, a new chance. There is someone who loves you and could not bear to go on without you. That is no bull crap. On your darkest day, your darkest moment, there is still hope as long as you are breathing and you can make choices that Willl change your life. How about it? Make one choice right now. Just focus on one thing! Life is worth living. If the people around you suck...get away from them, if you have a broken heart, the truest love you will ever have in this world is the love that you feel for yourself. Then you wil be ready for love. If where you live is a bummer, hey! You are not condemned to be there forever either. HEAVEN CAN WAIT. And if you wait for the day and the hour that God chose...then you would never have to wonder about whether or not you can go to heaven.

I've read a few different things. Some people say that you are reincarnated in a very similar situation to the one that caused you to kill yourself. You have to keep living it until you get through it and learn from the lesson.

Other sources say that you stay in purgatory, this sort of suspended place outside of heaven, where you soul basks in a healing light for as long as it takes to heal the pain that caused you to kill yourself. Once you are healed, you can go to heaven. But the waiting can take a long time.

I don't think you automatically go to hell if you commit suicide. Too many good people who just aren't thinking straight kill themselves, and many have legitimate mental diseases. I think God would understand these circumstances and accept those who are good.

That said, there do have to be some consequences in the afterlife. Imagine having to relive your whole life to get back to the spot where you are, only to have to go through it all again. That, to me, would be the ultimate deterrent from suicide.

Suicide is a sign or a mental disorder that can have demonic overtones. It is not in God's will for a Christian to choose the time of his or her departure from earth but it won't disqualify a person from entry into Heaven.

A Christian who feels like suicide might be the best option needs to talk honestly with more mature members of the body of Christ and ideally with an experienced Pastor or a Christian counselor. God has put us here for a reason and He has great plans for our lives. The Devil and his minions specialize in speaking to our spirits lies an discouragement and temptation in order to ruin our usefulness and if possible to end our earthly existence.

Don't fall short of God's plan for your life! Trust in Him that circumstances will get better as you seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness and stay close to Him in prayer always, in Jesus' name, Amen!

IMHO yes depending upon why. Considering I am answering this "off the cuff" my logic may not be complete, but I base the conditional yes on this....

If you are truly a Christian, suicide would definitely be a last resort for some reason...

If you are terminally ill and have been told you will have nothing but pain in the end, then I believe it would be something to discuss with God.

Perhaps the thoughts are being brought on by a biologically induced depression that takes you beyond the point of reason to commit the act.

There are surely more examples I could site where I believe you would be forgiven, but they are all extremes.

Would you really want to take the chance?

No one can answer that question for you. Only God decides who goes where. There are many factors involved. Did you kill yourself because no one told you it was a sin? Did you kill yourself because you're insane? Did you kill yourself accidentally? What was the state of your soul at death?

Anyone claiming to have the answer is claiming to know the will of God. That's blasphemy.

Some Protestants will tell you "once saved always saved." To be saved one only need believe in Jesus. Judas Iscariot believed in Jesus even when he hung himself. But Protestants don't believe they'll see Judas Iscariot in Heaven.

IF you were a christian, really, why would you want to kill yourself? The Bible says a murderer will NOT go to heaven. Lay off on your rock music some and pray or read the Word, or listen to some gospel songs...just try it, you should feel like a better person. You are NOT a loser.
