If you arent active at all right now start off slow and go for a 10 minute walk. The best thing about walking is that it firms and shapes. When you are able to do about an hour of good heart pounding walking at a time switch to something like a jog/walk combo for 30 minutes. Then progress to using some free weights and doing some strength training in conjunction with a good cardio vasular program (the jog/walk) and that will really help. As for doing things at home get a treadmill or a weight bench and work out there, or fill a backpack with some cans of soup. Squat down and stand up straight with that on your back and that will help with some lower back and leg strength. Crunches are another great way to tighten your stomach.

You can tone your abs with all kinds of exercises. But to lose weight in a specific area is not posssible. No matter how many moronic magazine articles or rip-off books try to tell you otherwise---- It is simply not possible to lose weight in just a specific spot.

You can't decide where the fat will come off. Your body works that one out... you can however do stomach exercises that will help tone the muscles in that area. http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/conditioning/a/aa020402a.htm

You'd benefit more by having an overall fitness program including your abdominal exercise... also don't forget a healthy diet and not too big portions.

I agree that walking is an excellent exercise. Pilates tones you up really well and improves your posture while lengthening your spine. I've used the "Abs of Steel" videos, which give you a great abs workout. Good luck!

While your watching TV or something, sit with your back straight, and bring your feet up off the floor, and place them back down. Just keep doing this, and if your doing it right, you should feel a tightness in your abdominal area.
