Is there two screws that will let you take it apart?

not trying to be a smart-*** but make sure the key is lined up exactly in the off position and then try pulling it out. That has happened to me

Try moving the steering wheel back and forth while you pull the key out.
I think that should do the trick.

sometimes the steering lock doesn't disengage so try putting your foot on the brake and putting the car into park again that might free up the key..

break it off so nobody can see it then you never have to use the key, just the remote entry.
