Hi - would anyone know the best route from the New Jersey tunrpike to get to Stamford CT without passing through the GW bridge? I heard it would be to take the Tapanzee bridge and if you would know the actual exit and directions, that'd be much appreciated! thanks in advance!

OK, go up to the Tappan Zee, 278 south (right across the NY line). Pay the toll. Continue down 278 across the bridge. Pay this toll. Continue south to the Hutchinson Parkway, exit going towards CT (you pass over and it butterflies back). You are now in White Plains. Drive North on the Hutch, and it becomes the Merritt Parkway as it hits CT (10 miles or so). (Excellent gas station here, by the way). You'll drive through Greenwich CT and then there's Stamford. You are actually in North Stamford. There are 3 exits. The first one, skip (I used to live off that one and it's all residential). The next 2 are Long Ridge and High Ridge Roads. If you want downtown, I would take Long Ridge and go South (to the right). Long Ridge has fewer lights and a bit less congestion than High Ridge. Long Ridge meets High Ridge, Summer Street, Bedford Ave., and Washigton Blvd. at Bull's Head. Just go straight and keep going straight and you'll be on Summer Street. Take it all the way into town.

Sorry that I don't know the exit numbers -- in CT, we never know the exit numbers except off I95. Now, if you wanted direction to I95, after you cross the Tappan Zee just go straight until you hit 95 (down in Rye, I think), then turn onto I95 North. Stamford is exits 6, 7, 8, and 9. Downtown would be exits 7 and 8.
