Pinto beans, rice, a bit of hamburger meat, a whole chicken which can be used to make two or three meals, weiners, a can of Salmon, a can of tuna, cream of mushroom soup...cheap stuff. If you have a Save A Lot near you, your $20 can go a long way there.

Mac & cheese, apples, oranges, a head of lettuce & frozen chicken breasts.
If any money left I'd buy some Instant Soup and Crystal Lite too.

Cabbages, carrots, onions, frozen corn, peas, a nice rump roast and V-8 and make a huge kettle of the best vegetable beef soup you ever had.
I'd also get bread & butter.

3 cans of tuna @1.00=3.00
2 bags egg noodles@1.00=2.00
3 cans cream of chicken soup@.50=1.50
2 cans peas@.50=1.00
This would make tuna casserole for dinner for 7 nights for one person.
4 boxes macaroni and cheese box mix@1.00=4.00
1 package hotdogs (8)@ 2.50=2.50
3 cans fruit cocktail@.50=1.50
1 gallon milk @2.50-2.50
This would make lunch for 1 person for 7 days
1 box oatmeal@2.00=2.00
Breakfast, 1 person 7 days
Total =20.00
These are prices at a cut rate (like Aldi) grocery for generic products. Not super tasty, but at least there are some fruits, vegetables, and protein.
