It really depends on your lifestyle. Do you want a big medium, or small dog? Are you active? Are you able to groom the dog? How about shedding? Thats one thing about labs... they shed non-stop... a lot... some breeds only shed seasonal.
Just keep these things in mind as you choose to get a dog.
Also consider a mix breed. They take the best qualities from each breed. Like a lab/poodle mix...
It is whatever thats best for you.

The best is a lab, had many breeds and the labs have been great with kids and other dogs even watching over the other dogs.

Pound Puppy!
Serious...do some research on any and all breeds suggested...if you decide on a "designer dog"...ck out your local pound...they will probably have one for a small fee...not the $1000.00 or so for a "pedigreed" mutt.

You should get a dachshund. They are nice, friendly dogs. I have a 10 year old dachshund.
