In American Sign Language, pointing to the palm with the index finger means "turn". As in, "I want a turn with that toy". You are also supposed to turn the finger clockwise in the palm, but most children just put the finger to the palm. I highly encourage signing with children of all abilities... it DOES NOT delay speech. In fact, it eases frustration of toddlers who are learning to speak by giving them a way to express themselves and be understood by others. "More" is signed by pointing all fingers of both hands towards each other in flat "o" shapes and tapping them together.

Like the other posters, it would be easier to answer if we had the context. Could be debt/owe-the index finger taps twice. If the finger does not tap, and the other hand moves away slightly frm the body=show/demonstrate.

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer to your question, but I wanted to respond to you in case your child uses sign language b/c of a disability or delay. If you need more information about sign language, please check out the site: www.sign2me.com
I'm very sorry that others here automatically assumed that your child was a "typically developing" toddler, when that may not be the case. If you need any support, please let me know.

Rich Z is wrong about sign language slowing down speech. First of all, you say aloud every word you sign every time you sign it. You'd be surprised how fast the child signs and says the word.
We babysit our grandchildren while their mamas work and we are teaching our 5th. He is 4 months-old. Perfect time to start.

The kid means she wants more. It also means you were not very smart to teach her sign language because now she is going to be VERY slow to use words. Why bother with speaking wordds when you can just point?

It means more--and don't listen to people who tell you it causes speech delay. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends signing but you should brush up on it so you know what she's saying. Also, don't rely on signs completely--talk to her while signing.

uh... who taught her the sign language? If she is making up her own, your guess is as good as mine.
