Since we are under the topic of cats, it has to be the good old regular tabby cat. I had both a grey and a yellow one and they were such sweet, beautiful animals.
Currently, I have a Pug dog, and she'e a sweetie. I recommend Pugs highly!

my two Akitas.. they are just a tad too smart and 'Humany' allthe time , but I not just feel safe with them around, I know I'm safe.
( after being held up at gunpoint in your home.. you know what safe feels like)
