can you record something on vhs tape if you have cable tv??? and if you can, can anyone teach me how to, because i cant seem to get it to work. my vcr player has a record button, but it wont play back. and i lost the manual

Hook your cable to the input of the VCR. Hool the output of the VCR to your TV. Tune your TV to channel 3. Turn on the VCR. You may have to push a button that says 'TV/VCR'. You will now use the VCR to tune in the channel you want, NOT the TV. When you can see the correct channel on the TV, you can press record and it should work.

This is assuming you have a very basic system. There are all kinds of ways to hook more modern equipment up these days.

you have to hook up your cable to the vcr first then to your tv.
