Flexibility comes from stretching, and you never want to stretch your muscles unless they're warmed up. I teach yoga, and I can say it will improve your flexibility. If doing this helps you, then go for it! You can do yoga every day if you want to, the more you do it, the more flexible you will become as your muscles are stretched over and over again. It would definitely be a good idea for you.

Practice yoga regularly... yes, you can practice at night. If you preactice regularly you will notice an increase in flexibility in a relatively short period of time. Try practicing every other night for 30 -45 minutes. Check out books by Rodney Yee, or "Yoga for Regular Guys" by Dallas Page.

Good luck!

Never do Yoga (or any kind of exercise for that matter!) when you're in pain! That's very unhealthy for you, and will just make it worse!

But if you're in good condition, practicing Yoga should eventually make you more flexible, yes. Don't try to be flexible immediately. Stretch further a little more time after time, it'll eventually become easier for your body to adapt.

Yoga is excellent when practiced regularly. You can work with an instructor to learn a routine, then use it at home frequently with occasional classes to stay tuned up on your technique.

Another extremely good approach to stiffness and back problems is Pilates; it was developed for ballet dancers but has been generalized to a wider audience in recent years. Pilates is known for focusing on "core strength" meaning abdominals and back.

Another thing that you might want to do for an initial period of a few weeks or months is "dynamic stretching" with a fitness trainer who will help you gradually increase your range of motion.

The site below has a very thorough discussion of stretching.

Yes, you should do yoga consistently, not just when you r back hurts. You need lasting resuls (lefibility, imprved musces). That can be achieven with consisten training. Yoga is a very goo d choise. You've been using it successfully a a quick remedy, now try do do a step up from that.

Also try pilates. It is based on yoga.

Yes, you can exersise late in the evening. However, if you notice that it disturbs your sleep - than you shouldn't do it in the vevening, or at least not so late in the evening.

Do a combination of yoga and pilates. Pilates helps strenthen your core "your abs" which helps strenthen your back so you will have less bachache. Pilates also stretches and flexes you like yoga. If you don't belong to a gym you can get beginning yoga and beginning pilates DVD's that you can use at home. Do a routine 3 to 4 times per week for at least a half hour until you are feeling stronger then you can do them more often.

Yoga is good for strength and flexibility and will also calm your mind down in the evening. For backaches I would recommend doing situps.

if you stretch further anf further every day to where it hurts you will become more flexible. for kids taking karate classes they have a board which strethes the legs gradually into the split position, then they are able to do the splits. it is all about stretching the muscles and getting them used to a certain range of movement.

You need to do stretching exercises that focus on specific muscles in the back. You may also wish to consult a chiropractor, as I had good results with one who effectively treated my back pain.
