That's because I KNOW He exists.

We don't have to "believe" in something that we KNOW is true.

That's why I don't "believe" in God. I know He's real ... !

I know He's real, because He's been there for me in situations that, logically speaking, I had no business getting out of. Situations that could have utterly ruined my life, in more ways than one.

I'm telling you, in these situations there was NO way I could have gotten out of them without Him.

There's no other explanation for why I got out of these situations. No other explanation at all, except that God was there.

And, every time I've prayed to Him in true need -- and every time I've asked Jesus' mother Mary to pray for me to Him -- I have NEVER been let down.

Not once.

I KNOW God is real. I know it for a fact.

That's fantastic. I too have had some of those situations in which you "just know" he is there. I'm glad that there are others that know what I'm talking about. There is no real proof you can offer to people. Until they have their own experiance with God untill then they will doubt.God is real and may he continue to bless you.

--Is Catholic--

I am glad that you brought this topic up. It is one of my areas on interest. People tend to confuse the following topics, faith, belief, opinion.

Knowledge is something that is formed in reason and is objectively known to be objectively true.

Faith, by definition is a form of knowledge. Specifically it is knowledge based on relationship. There is "faith in" and "faith that". It is also important to understand that Faith is only temporary and it eventually passes into true knowledge. What we now know by Faith, we will someday know by sight. Many people, especially Protestant theology which has faith being hostile or utterly separate from reason/science, tends to confuse faith with hope.

Belief is understanding based on some aspect of reason and knowledge. One does not know if the belief is actually true, but there is good reason to think that it should be true.

Opinion is simply thinking something to be true while the thought not based on reason. The person does not know if something is actually true or not.

Now I too know that God exists. It is not a matter of faith for me, but it is knowledge, just as I know that 2+2=4 or that I am typing at my computer at the moment. I have faith that the Gospel of John was written by St. John and not somebody else, because I have a relationship with the Church as well as an understanding of history. I believe that the sun will rise tomorrow, because it has happened today and reasonably will happen tomorrow. I have an opinion that I cannot learn foreign languages (which is not rational because I have)

Actually, in spite of William R, Catholics are the only true Christians, the rest are like little kids rebelling against the parents. If you've not noticed, they sound like it, too.

"The Roman Catholic Church, also called the Catholic Church, is the Christian Church in full communion with the Pope, who is currently Pope Benedict XVI. It traces its origins in the original undivided Christian community founded by Jesus, with its traditions first established by the Twelve Apostles and maintained through unbroken Apostolic Succession.

The Church is not only the largest Christian Church, but also the largest organized body of any world religion.[1] According to the Statistical Yearbook of the Church, the Church's worldwide recorded membership at the end of 2004 was 1,098,366,000, or approximately 1 in 6 of the world's population.[2] According to canon law, members are those who have been baptized in, or have been received into, the Catholic Church on making a profession of faith, provided they have not formally renounced membership."

I know he is too, honey. But knowing and believing....same thing. Trying to separate the two words is a game of semantics...maybe you need to look THAT up in the dictionary.
You say that you have prayed to Mary and asked her to pray to Jesus for you....hmmm....all I can say to that is John 14:6. If you arent familiar with it, look it up. Otherwise, make sure that your belief, faith or "knowledge" of God (whatever you want to call it) isnt based on Him never having given you a negative answer to a prayer. Your faith isnt real if it hinges on that...does it?

Some say that the proof of this sort of knowledge is faith. I think that it is on this basis - faith - that you "know" He is real. You can say that you know as many times as you would like, you can even CAPITALIZE it.

But what 'factual' proof do you have that He exists?

Belief and faith are not "facts".

And FYI: I believe that God exists too - but I have no facts to prove it.

And what would you say to those who are as devoted, if not more devoted, than you are who have had their prayers gone unheeded? You cali that EVERY TIME you've prayed in true need, then you have NEVER been let down. Well what of those who have been let down?

Actually I am going to go by your first question. Because that is one that truly shocked me. There is many people who are in a religion that doesn't believe in god. The virgin birth of christ and numerous other bible teachings. Some told me they believed in the trinity and didn't know what it was. Was shocked to learn it meant that the father and son were one and the same.
Said; I don't believe that. That's ridiculous. So a lot of religion out there but not a lot of believe in god.

Uhh...

You know we recite the Creed, right? You know - first line? "I believe in God the Father Almighty" etc?

That is the CORE profession of faith for Catholics. If you don't believe in God, you don't follow the Creed, and you aren't Catholic.

Now, perhaps you mean the difference only semantically. In that case, the confusion it causes is not good. And if you mean it actually, then as above stated you are not Catholic because you don't believe what the Church professes.

I "know" I just read your question, but I can't "believe" it. Semantics causes more problems than anything else. That's why laws are so long and so much of our tax money is spent writing and enforcing them. Because someone like you believes that a rose by any other name doesn't smell quite as sweet.
