Tortillas are to Mexicans, as bread is to Anglos.

Because tortillas are really yummy AND a convenient way to serve sandwich-like foods. Mexicans have known about them forever, and the rest of the world has just been catching on over the last few decades. Soon you'll be able to ask "why does everyone in the world and on the Moon and Mars colonies love tortillas?"

???

Do you think Mexicans are the only ones who love tortillas? I'm not Mexican and love the crunchy, yummy snacks.

Do you mean why do Mexicans have it as staple to their diet? Harkens back to centuries ago. Corn was and is a staple of the food for that culture. Tortillas can be made by anyone and they don't require a lot of money. They are versatile.

Why do Americans like bread? Why do the French like crepes? Why do Canadians like ketchup flavored potato chips? Why do Germans like spaetzle? Why do Russians like caviar? Why do Chinese like roast duck?

Because it's food, they have a lot of it in their country, and it's become a staple for them. (Except for the Canadian/ketchup potato chip thing. That was my pitiful attempt at humor. LOL)

Because they are used to them, and they are useful. They mop up beans good and you can pack a bunch of stuff in there and it holds everything together so you can eat it all in a burrito. You can even put meat in there and roll up 'em and fry them, there are a lot of combos you can do with them.
