I have pretty long hair and i dont want to lose too much length, and i want a great new cut for school. any ideas?

it really depends on your definition of "pretty long". really long hair usually looks rather silly on anyone who's not <12yo (or preparing to become the next princess bunhead). if you're wanting to keep some length but not sacrifice much in style, i'd suggest no longer than the middle of your back with long layers. additionally, depending on the shape of your face you might want to consider adding bangs if you haven't some already. these can really enhance your look.

fyi - layers are a huge benefit for long hair as it removes the weight without losing much in length.

you should also consider your lifestyle, if you're a wash and go sort don't go for anything that requires too much maintenance.

You could do some layers or side bangs. Or try a different shade, highlighting etc. Or try a different style, not cutting or changing your hair, but styiling it different, new curls, waves, crimping etc.

Well what i would do is go to a high-in salon and look at some of the styles. Or you could get layered, permed, or braided.
