Chill out and stop worrying that you can't. As soon as you feel sleepy in the evening stop what you are doing and head upstairs. Make sure your room is cool enough and dark. Try and settle and don't think about things you need to do. If something pops into ur head make a list before you go to bed so it empties ur mind.
If you have to go to bed at a certain time, try warm baths. The way your body cools down afterwards mimics the first stages of sleep where your body temp drops slightly. Try warm milk too. It could be that you have eaten too early, in which case try a small piece of banana to give you enough energy to drop off. Make sure you do not eat a heavy meal too late otherwise you will be busy digesting it.
Try masturbating/sex as orgasm can cause sleepiness.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine or any other stimulants including sugar and any artificial preservatives and drinks before bed.
Try lavender oils on your pillow.

I have trouble sleeping at nite too. If I cant fall asleep by reading, then I smoke a bowl. It really helps. Hope you figure something out.

I would go see you doctor and tell them that is is a problem, I used to have that problem. Now I use Ambien I take it 20 min before I go to bed and fall asleep with in another 20 min.

Tylenol PM just has Benadryl in it which can help. the ambien costs me 50 dollars, and I have insurance. It would be 120 with out it, and thats just for 30 pills.

if those dont work try drinking or smoking pot

I'm right there with ya...I myself have to take over the counter sleep aids, but if you take them every night, they end up not working, your body gets too used to them...there can also be other issues, such as drinking caffenated drinks before bed, being overweight, being depressed...etc...also they say not to watch tv or do other activities in bed, that way your body knows when you lay down that your bed is for sleeping only...if this stuff doesn't help, you may need to see a doctor for prescription medication...

1. Be active during the day -- engaged. Work, Play, Learn, Exercise...whatever.

2. Stop eating 2 hrs. before you decide to go to bed. and NO TV 2 hrs. before bed - no movies, no computer, no tv shows, no screen of any kind. Write in a journal, read something, do something that is calm to you.

3. Don't do anything in your bed except sleep. don't eat in bed, don't watch tv in bed....prep your mind to link up: bed=sleep.

4. If you can meditate 15 mins per day....i never got to sleep faster than when i was meditating. You'll learn how to stop your thought, and put your body into a restful state at will. google it.

Hope it helps.

I have the same problem...

I have tried a glass of milk, watching tv, reading, but nothing seems to help.

I will take an Advil PM maybe once a week to help me fall asleep that night...I just won't allow myself to become dependent on pills to sleep

SERIOUSLY..... i used to have the same problem. This works like a charm for me every nite, its simple & u dont have to buy anything!

1.) lay down & take a few deep breaths to slow your heart a bit

2.) get comfy

3.) start counting in your head slowly. I usually count to 30 then start over again & before i get to 30 again IM OUT!

make sure that counting is all you are concentrating on! dont think about ANYTHING else! GOOD LUCK....I KNOW IT WILL WORK....then you can choose mine as the best answer lol :o)~

They sell a sleep aid in walmart, they work great and they are non adictive, all natural, You can find them where the vitamins are, you can also have a cup of chamomile tea, it is great for relaxing and losing you up. But the pills work great, and they are not expensive at all less than 4 bucks.

I take medication. I can't fall asleep and when I do I keep waking up. I just use medication. I don't abuse it. I use it and it works. I need to sleep. I try to slow myself down around 7:30 when I take my medicine. I get dressed for bed and try to relax. It is hard for me to relax. I just want to do stuff, be busy. I have to make myself relax or I will fight the medication.
Good luck to you,
Cathy

Take 3 or 4 deep breaths before you lay down. You have to release all of your thought. Then lay down how you ussually sleep.
