All of the above.
Hell is separation from God. An infinite yearning for liberation from the burden of guilt. The mental and emotional torture of knowing that you will never again feel the love of God.

All three:
1) Physical - You feel the flames, and experience thirst that is unquenchable.
2) Mental - You will know that you didn't have to come there. You'll see all the chances you squandered.
3) Emotional - You will be able to remember the family left behind that you'll never see again. Some lost as you, some not, but lost to you forever. You are totally alone.

Hell is total and permanent separation from the uncreated Creator!!!

It sounds pretty physical, mental and emotional to me. That is all I really know about it. And I certainly wouldn't wish it upon anybody. I have no desire to be anywhere other than with my Creator.

Do you like rain? It has been raining heavily here for a couple of days but it FEELS like it has been raining forever.

Just try to imagine FOREVER - never seeing daylight again. It boggles the mind.

Someone loaned me The Cat and Dog Theology cds about 2 years ago. You might enjoy listening to them for someone else's view of hell.

Why not spend spend the remainder of your life getting to know the awesome uncreated Creator of the universe. I promise you that it will be worth your while.

In my view Hell, is separation from God forever. For me that would be all three, physical, mental, and emotional torture. I have accepted Jesus as my savior, so I do not have to worry about it.

Hi,
Our souls will leave our bodies. If we are sent to Hell, our souls will burn forever, but not be destroyed, so it wouldn't be physical torture as we know it. So I would think it would be more emotional torture. I try to imagine what that would be like and I would much rather be in Heaven, see, and touch Jesus' face, and live forever in his presence, and be without pain, sadness, fear, etc.

Hell in reality doesn't exist. But, in this life it is an emotional torture just constantly keeping people in fear of death.

Most definitely figurative (mental and emotional). I don't believe there is a place sweltering with fire, holding a googol load of people, burning them forever for exercising their free will. What kind of punk-a** god would do that? An Infinite Being transcends quantified thoughts.

Well, if you do not have a body then how could it be physical torture. For this to happen God would have to reanimate your body, place your soul back into it, and then send you to hell. Ouch! Very cruel.

i believe that it is all of the above. Mostly though I think the real torture is being with out God for eternity.

It is the most horrible torture of all ... separation from the loving God. It never ends.

When Moses ask God his name He told him, "Tell them I am that I am." which means God is beyond (outside) of time. He simply IS. He can be the Alpha and Omega (The beginning and the end) because in His domain there is no time ... only existence.

When you die your spirit is also beyond time and thus compelled to exist in torment or Ecstasy.
