I always ask my stylist to thin mine out whenever I get a trim. My hair is really thick and will poof out if I don't get it thinned out. They will use either a razor or a pair of thinning shears to do it. As far as products go, honestly, nothing is really going to thin out your hair. They may claim to, but none of them really will.

Get a haircut from your stylist and ask them to use a razor - it's not a scary leg shaving razor, it's a type of hair cutting utensil that makes thick hair lay nicely.
