My friend is unaware he is about to be dumped. Should I warn him, or let him find out on his own. The girl is not very nice, and is known to be a flirt with other men, although the guy is oblivious to this. She plans to break up with him just before he leaves for uni. Perhaps, if he knows, he could end the relationship first...

Your a really good friend and your friend is lucky to have someone care about his feeling the way you do. However, I would not get into the middle of this even though he's about to be dumped by this loser of a girfriend he has. It wouldn't be right on your part seeing that this is their own personal relationship with each other. It's pretty crappy what she's doing, but he's a big boy and he'll handle it and move on afterwards. Even though he's your friend you have to remember this is his business. This girl will realize her lost in the near future, and your friend will gain a better woman once this other girl is gone. Keep being a good friend to him, and be a support to him if he needs you.

Part of me wants to recommend you not get involved and let him find out on his own in due time. The only advantage for telling him is so that he can break up with her first... might make him feel a bit better about the whole thing but ultimately won't make any difference. That's a tough situation to be in, maybe try to consider it from the perspective of if you would want to be told that someone you've been dating is about to break up with you. I don't know if I'd want to be told or not.

The best thing you can do is stay out of it. He will find out soon enough and won't have the memory of you telling him bad news. Let his girlfriend be the heavy.
