People hate not because they truly feel hate, but they are scared of things or people they don't understand, and are jealous of what they do not have. Fear and envy are difficult emotions to deal with, and a lot of people have a hard time admitting to them, even to themselves. So it is easier to turn those feelings into hatred.

Well it means to me that someone knows what they are talking about, because it's 100% true. Hate is a weakness, not a strength! Something many people have not been raised to believe in our world today!!!

Although envy does stem from fear, because the only reason a person envys another is because they fear they don't have something as good. There is no other reason to envy. So the words 'and envy' could be taken completely out of this phrase and it would still have just as much meaning.

One should never say that because men are different. One can't generalize like that. Fear has been used by the churches to keep people down on earth during centuries. Envy is similar to greedy, isn't it? Greediness is the root to anything evil do we learn from a Holy Book, don't we?
Hate is something that you do not have to be a victim of as you can decide what you will think and feel. It is a question of education isn't it and self discipline?

So does that mean the love springs from the same area since love and hate stem from the same area of the brain?

Assuming that springes is a typo for springs. I would say "Men start hating something because they are afraid of it or they wish they were like it."
