rent the "standard deviants" videos on netflix or blockbuster. Videos just seem to be easier to remember that books. Plus you'll find alot more you can rent or buy - just put in the keywords.

The best way to be good in algebra is to first write all the equations and/or concepts from your book and notes from lecture down seperately on another sheet of paper. Keep this paper as a guide sheet and practice as many problems on each topic as much as possible. This will be tedious at first, but the more you practice, the quicker you will learn the concepts. And once you know the concepts, math isnt hard anymore. Good Luck.

To pass in algebra is necessary to have a lots of practice, but to have a good you will need to look to the details, having a good mathematical language and correct!

So, find a good starting algebra book to have a overview of the subject, then practice a bit. After, pick up a good and complex algebra book, and try to study it to have answers more correct!

Book stores have books on algebra, geometry etc... with practice problems and solutions. After you work a lot of problems you begin to feel confident that you can solve the equations. Also, many college campuses have students willing to tutor other students and high school students in math. I have found that very helpful myself.

Many times, I have found one textbook's examples were not very clear in their explanation, but looking at the explanation of the same 'procedure' in another text cleared things up. Maybe you could get a complimentary text to use as a back up. If you understand the reason behind the steps, it becomes a whole lot easier to follow the procedure.

Check out college bookstores - they usually have remedial math classes and so, remedial math texts.

Practice, Practice, Practice, also if your school has skilled tutors who know what they are doing, get one. Some junior colleges and universities offer no cost tutors to help you get through those required courses. Also some schools offer remedial algebra courses that show it to you in simpler steps to get you ready for college algebra and Geometry.

The best way is to just do the steps over and over. That's why they give you homework. You've got to practice using that part of your brain. It's not natural for most people.
