My husband was in Iraq and Kuwait for 7 months. Things are better. I wouldn't call it good but better. There is a long way to go. That is why we are still there. People don't understand why??? We are helping them rebuild, not just their government but everything that terrorists and the insurgents (and their previous leader!) have destroyed. We are helping them bulid schools, hospitals and homes. As well as sewage systems, power and updating the systems the already have there.
You are very correct about the media. Its a shame that the people we trust to bring us the truth only bring us the part the want us to hear not all of it.
Thank you for wanting the truth!

Just got back last week - and yes you're absolutely right the media is doing a hash job of it. Why only last week the Abdullah Abdullah Abdul School for wayward children had its open day and you'd never believe it but the coalition forces and some insurgents actually swopped stories, cigerettes, played soccer with the kids who loved every minute of it... and the army found that some of the insurgents were really nice people. It was just that they didn't even know that they were shooting at the wrong people. They had thought their orders were to kill Americans. It turns out the message from a foreign country was to kill the bad guys like Americans do. The "do" part of the message had not come through on the fax machine. So they had read the message as, "kill the bad guys like Americans."
Well the mess was straightened out and what do you know? The Iraqi Army - that's the good guys on our side, had itself three thousand new well trained recruits. And that's not all, the fighting in that area suddenly stopped because all the three thousand insurgents were no longer insurgents. They had joined the army. It was a real feel good story. And as our commander-in-chief has been saying all along, as soon as the Iraqi army is able to take control of parts of Iraq the US forces will pull out of those areas - so we did. And I'm no longer needed in Iraq, that explains why I'm home now.
Can you believe it that we were fighting all because of some stupid technology - a broken fax machine that ended up giving Iraqi's the wrong message. So you see it really isn't as hard as it seems to fix Iraq. Only if the media would do its part and report things as they really are... we really would appreciate that because the war would end soon and we'll all be able to come home. And that of course is what eveybody wants, except of course for the press. They need war because it sells their papers.

we took out a brutal dictator. schools were built. hospitals. sure some civilians may be getting killed, but at least it isn't at the hands of their own government. Same thing with our sisters and mothers being raped. We have done the right thing by overthrowing Sadaam. after WWII there were bombings and radicals just as there are today. the difference is that the media didn't stab America in the back.I wouldn't want to live there, but it is better than it was. That is what America does. We defend those who cannot stick up for themselves. People deserve to be free, whether democrats realize it or not.

i just got back in June and its a mixed bag. southern iraq is nice and peaceful but is almost entirely Shiite. The problem is tribal feuds that go back several generations and religious differences that go back centuries. I have been told by locals some of whom i believe that by and large they just want to live quietly. But the thing to remember and most people don't understand this is that they are not Americans and their belief structure is different and the moral structure is different so when measuring progress you cant go by our standards because they don't apply easily

Yes the media just shows what gets them ratings....there has been allot of progression over there, You see its like this One day your helping out some man and the next day he is firing at you, so it makes it difficult to just sweep through the cities because then you are accused of killing civilians and that makes it frustrating.

There isn't any right answer. You're going to get people who say the war is going well, and those who don't.
