i think neutering is the term in general for both female and male. but spaying is females and castration is for males...... i might be wrong but thats what i always assumed..... castration or neutering a male cat is cheaper then spaying or neutering a female cat because the proceedure is less complicated with males.

Spay is for females and neuter is for males - there is a trend I've noticed in working in vet clinics, for veterinary staff to refer to the procedure as neutering whether the animal is male or female. You see this in breeder discussion groups too - "neuter" is used for both. It doesn't mean that they don't know the difference or anything, it's just something I've seen in people who work with animals.

Neuter is actually the term applied to desexing either sex. Spay is for females and castrate is for boys. Neuter has just come to be more ment for boys, but the term actually is for either sex.
Rita is really clueless!!!!! Tubes tied and a vasectomy are not what is done to pets!!!!! Vasectomy cuts the tube bringing sperm out of the testes. In a castration, which is what is done to pets, the entire testicle is removed. This curbs the hormone production.
People should know what they are talking about before they answer!!!!
