25 minutes after you finish applying it

If you use the color all over - generally it takes about 25 for the roots and 10 for the rest - however, I would do the roots first, then the rest of your hair and THEN wait 25 minutes. You should be fine. If you want to speed up the process, have a friend help you out. When I get my hair colored at the salon - they put it all in and then I wait 25 under the dryer. Hope that helps!

I would still time the color for about 20-25 minutes, even though it has taken you 25 minutes to apply the color to your new-growth.

Realize that if you don't wait the length of time recommended in the directions, the new-growth where you have just finished applying the color will not have had the color on anywhere near the time recommended in the directions.

I also color my own hair at home, and I have never really worried about this. I have always waited the 25 minutes recommended in the directions, and have in fact added 5 minutes on occasion.

It is important that the color does not dry out while you are waiting, and it is also important to keep your head out of cold drafts while you are waiting. The coloring process is enhanced through the warmth of your head, so cool air blowing on your head could hinder the coloring process.

It would depend on the color you are trying to acheive. For blondes, they usually tell you on the instructions how long and what to look for. Blonde shades you want to wait until it usually goes pale, and so on. Roots take longer than the remainder of you hair because it is "virgin" non-processed hair, where the rest of your hair will not take any time since you already have color on it. Check it on top, if that is where you start, once you have your entire head covered, and remainder, if it's not ready, just reapply the color where you wiped it from. Make sure to check the roots first before you rinse it out. Sometimes it can take longer than the estimated time.

You can probably check online under the brand name of the company and ask online questions or read more into the directions.

I color my hair as well and apply the color in on foul swoop and then i start the time from when I finished applying however due to the shade and the quality of the coloring agents you may not want to leave it on as long else the color will come out a little more intense then you desired... example I dyed my hair natural looking red and had a lock turn out almost fluorescent orange.. just stick with one brand of hair color and you will get a feel for times

You are trying too hard, if it takes 25 minutes to cover your root area. You don't have to be that ticky.

You do NOT always have to re-do your ends. If they are still dark, don't touch. If they have lost a little color, but STILL dark, keep it on just 5 more minutes, because your colored hair is going to g-r-a-b that color.

I start from the time I finish the color and add five minutes. The time in the instructions doesn't necessarily mean that will work for you. Experiment a bit and find out if you should have it on for less time.
