Boy, I sure like these easy questions. Materialism implies a lack of spiritual sustenance. Being demoralized also means some joy has gone out of your existence and material possessions aren't doing it for you. So, to answer the "what" part of your question, it's basic human nature. The pursuit of the almighty dollar. The rat race. It's sort of like playing Y!Answers for points. As for "when" will we save ourselves? Well, I think you can measure the pulse of a society by how its people drive. It's not looking too good right now, you know what I mean?

Because certain belief systems have enforced the way of extreme individualism. The belief that a strong woman needs no man, only money, power, and superficial relationships. Man have been told to be the same. In todays America, it's about doing for yourself, judging others, never truly judge yourself or truly care much for others.

I think learning to stand up as an individual is good, but extreme individualism is self-destructive and wasteful.

Well, some might argue that it was the development of large industry, or the development of automobiles and an increased reliance on individual self-reliance (to the point of exclusion of values), or perhaps even the development of motion pictures and the entertainment industry in general. Maybe it's even simpler, and people just forgot that it was important to pray. When will we come together? Perhaps when extinction seems imminent, and that may not happen for several more years.

I'm not a Communist but rampant capitalism seems to put us on the road to destruction of many kinds. Make money, buy more, consume more, throw more away, buy more.

Essential principles of humility and understanding of our small place in the cosmos have been lost. Humans are supreme optimists. Nothing can get the better of us...if that's true why are the cockroaches smiling and smacking their lips?

the overabundance of a mass quantity of fabric products. an abundance of issues that we don't choose. convenience - that's a double-edged sword; it fairly is made our lives greater advantageous yet we've long gone too some distance. loss of preparation and expertise of what fairly concerns emphasis on money and cloth issues ("it fairly is what sells") fairly than on actual happiness and all the different issues that truly count selection. To all people who say we have not got adequate God/Jesus: particular, via fact religions are stable for giving society a longtime code of ethics and priorities. yet competing religions reason tensions between people too. we choose a greater time-honored code, and it ain't gonna be only YOUR faith, be it Christianity, Catholicism, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, jainism, Bahai, and so on . . . !!
