My hair is just below my shoulders and I would like to get a perm but I don't want it to kink up and look short again. How long should it be before I get a perm?

If it just below your shoulders the perm will bring it up to right above, if not at your shoulders. I had mine to the lower shoulder blade and got a perm and it brought it to just below my shoulder. It all depends on where you want you hair in the end. It will not be that dramatic of an effect, but it also depends on if you get a tight perm or something like a body wave. Mine was kind of a inbetween and it worked great! Good luck!

I just got a perm, and my hair was just below my shoulders. I even got it trimmed and it doesn't look that much shorter. It will shorten up a bit obviously, but since your hair looks fuller from the perm most people probably won't notice. It also depends on the type of perm and size of curlers. My perm is wavy and used large curlers. The larger the curlers, the bigger the curls and the longer your hair stays. Good luck with your perm!

It's going to look a little shorter no matter what length your hair is, curl will do that. You can choose how tight or how loose you want a perm though. Just tell them what kind of curl you want and they will decide from there. Let them know if you have color in your hair too. That will determine what type of perm solution they use.

It sounds like your hair will be fine to perm. It will, obviously, look somewhat shorter due to the curls but not bad. It'll prob hit you just above the shoulder or right at the shoulder.

Anytime you get a perm it is going to kink up, unless you just want a body wave. Talk with your hairstylist and ask their opinion on the matter. Tell them what your desired look is and what they recommend you do.

Your length sounds perfect for a perm. Just note that when you go to the salon you MUST sopecify how curly you want it. From a body wave to a tight curl. If you have a reliable hairdresser ask him/her what they would recommend.

Depends how you want your perm; if you don't want it to kink up, let it grow out to about the middle of your back.

Get a very loose perm and it won't look too much shorter.
