What's your view on our soldiers? Are they good lads and lasses doing a hard job? Or are they viewed as baby killers and murderers?
Only sensible answers which don't offend (too much)

For those of you who are unable to articulate themselves in a polite manner, well then I'm sorry. For those of you who have asked if I would do the job, well I say yes I would and yes I have and yes I am still doing the job.
This question was posted as I have a sincere curiosity on how myself and my colleagues are viewed.

Would people please RTFQ properly.
This question is in no way a slander at our soldiers, it is simply asking for your opinion of them.

Congratulations on a job well done!
It is a thankless job which pays a pittance and has enormous risk. I take my hat off to the British Army's men and women, they have showed so much restraint in Iraq and other areas of conflict.
I have seen footage of squaddies (soldiers) getting pelted with rocks and trash, getting shot at from all sides and all this to help create a better place for other people to live in.
Yes, they mess in the middle east may be partly our fault, but you cant blame a soldier for that, for that we have politicians to thank.
Overall, they are good bunch of lads and lasses

Your average squaddie is a good fellow doing the job. What is unfortunate is that job requires activities that the average civilian finds repugnant. That's the big problem. Juvenal, a roman writer said it best when he wrote that those qualities that make a good soldier are not those that make a good civilian. We must understand that the battlefield has it's own rules that must be followed to survive.

Each and every one of them are brave individuals, Heroes in the true sense of the word, and should be thanked by all British civilians for serving them. They should be highly regarded, like the Americans do with their forces. On a detatchment to America, I found that they thank their military all of the time. I was in a nightclub in Arizona, and they asked "Who's in the military?" over the speaker system. The military people got on an elevated dancefloor and everyone clapped for them. I've had people on the street thank me as soon as they found out I was in the RAF. I wish it was like that here. Not to thank me, but the brave people who have been on ops. I want to be one of them, but all I've done is Op Fresco (fire strikes)

Why are the British soldiers brave - which they are & doing a good job - which they are & the US soldiers are the bad guys.
Press forms opinions of our young. Maybe less TV & Internet would help them think for themselves.
Either both are good or both are bad - I believe both to be honorable soldiers.

I think they are so brave - You do a fantastic job !
My boyfriend was in the army and went to various countries including Northern Ireland, people don't realise what a great job they do day in,day out.
Also they don't choose where to go ,they are told...
And they can't just walk away like a normal job.
If people don't agree with Iraq they should blame the government not the troops !!!!

you know i come from a military family and have been brought up with squaddies of all ranks. i still have no idea why they do it. i know that in the seventies they revelled in serving in northern ireland and then in the falklands etc they just love the action. but ive also sat and watched em cry at what they have seen in kosavo etc. finding women and children hiding in the bushes and the hills and getting a kicking from a mother while trying to help them with food and medical assistance and all this because the last thing they want to see is another soldier.

As an American I think they are doing a fine job. I have respect and admiration for British forces. I only hope they aren't the recipients of the same hatefulness that Bush, American troops, and the American people receive from some of the Brits who post here.

Most are good people but of course you always get a bad apple in any walk of life. I was one for 24 years. One thing that concerned me though was how the media reports them as Heroes as soon as they lose their life! Not heroes whilst alive?

They are good lads and lasses doing a hard job - but they've been duped into fighting in a made-up war, the purpose of which is to make large American companies richer.

I say well done, the media tends to focus on the mad bad few without a hint of the amazing everyday stuff they do... They put their lives on the line and I'm grateful that they are there to protect us.
