I'm having a fall wedding, so to use fall colors, I'm using the red, orange, yellow and brown M&Ms wrapped in tulle, tied with dark brown ribbon. It's yummy and not too expensive.

I am the queen of wedding favors. I just made 150 wedding favors for my daughter's wedding. I bought 2" (light green) pears from ebay and made a small (dark green) leaf for each pear and in a very tiny print on each leaf 3 lines: "Danielle and Andy"
A Perfect Pair
June 16, 2006
I then made a small ivory colored ribbon and attached the ribbon and leaf by a small pin near the base of the stem of the pair. They were beautiful and in fact, the photographer took a picture of them before they were placed on the tables. You can purchase these on ebay in a complete set if you are not up to making leaves, bows, etc.

I think you should do wedding favors that are unique to you and your interests. I went to a wedding where they gave away golf balls and tees with their names and the wedding date on them and I thought that was cute. Most of my family are from Louisiana so at my cousin's wedding she had fleur de lis cookies for every guest. Just maybe think about things that you or your fiance are interested in or things that remind people of you and brainstorm ways to incorporate that into your favors so that they are more memorable!

We are doing the Jordan Almond thing for each attendee, and each couple/family that is attending will receive a small photo album that carries our wedding theme. We figure it will be a useful gift, and if they want to buy/download wedding pictures to put in it when they're developed, it's a nice memento. If they want to use it as a photo album for their own pictures, it's a practical gift.
Also, since we have family who isn't able to attend because of various reasons, we're ordering some extras, will put wedding pictures in them, and send them to those that we invited that couldn't attend.
There are lots of options when you're having a small wedding.
Here's the type of album we're using:

A single flower stem. Goes with the wedding bouquets, can be taken home for a vase, if there not taken your house will look like a church for a week or two. Better than bloody sugared almonds or other things that they don't really want. Every girlie loves a flower.

I went to a wedding once where they had sugar cookies in the shape of a wedding cake very nicely decorated. They were in a little bag in the color of the wedding which was lavander. Then a little piece of real lavander was tied to it. It was very creative, and not the normal thing you would get.

For my brothers wedding we put after dinner mints and jordan almonds in mini champagne glasses and wrapped them in tuele with pretty cloth ribbon that matched the wedding colors.
If you have a Party City or Crafts Plus near you, they have great stuff and ideas. If not, their internet sites should have tons of ideas for you and they are not expensive.

I used these at my wedding.
Small cloth pouch (find in any craft store)
Hershey Kisses and Hugs
Ribbon of your color
Little tags with the following saying
"Hugs and Kisses from the new Mr. & Mrs."
You can place the bride and groom's names and the date on the tag as well.
Place a couple Kisses and Hugs in each bag, then attach the tag with the ribbon.
Cute and inexpensive.
