I plan on starting to work out and I have a few questions. I will be going to the gym 3 days a week. I have heard that after 45 mintues your cortisol levels shoot up and you will not get the most out of your workout. I have also heard that it is important to do cardio before weight training. So should I run and lift at separate times or should I run and lift in the same workout? If I do do it in the same workout, how long should I run and how long should I lift. My main goal is to build muscle, though I would like to lose a little excess fat.

If it matters, I plan on taking whey protein after workouts

you need to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. The 45 minute thing is not true, but don't over 60 minutes at a time.

Do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Good luck and stick at it.

Take endotil instead of the whey protein. Endotil works like a steroid but it isn't a steroid. There are no side affects just fast muscle. My fiance has been working out forever with little results until he started taking the endotil, in about a months time he got big. It costs about 60$ and you can get it at any suppliment store. Its a small pill you put under your tongue and let it dissolve, do this 20 to 30 mins before your workout, and on the days you don't work out take it first thing in the morning. Goodluck..

I've had a very similar workout routine for years and this is how I do it. I do a light cardio workout before I do my weight training to get my body warmed up and my heart rate up. Maybe 20 to 30 minutes on the lifecycle should do it. As far as your weight training goes, do all your pushing exercises one day, and your pulling the next. Push meaning bench press, incline press, and so forth, isolate muscle groups. If you're just starting out take a day inbetween to recover because you'll be sore as hell at first, but that will taper off. Also, as your training increases, you'll need to modify your diet to maintain adequate nutrition levels for maximum muscle growth. Be very careful with protein, yes it will help with muscle mass, but it has other harmful side effects. When your body breaks down protein, it releases ammonia molecules, and when 2 or more of these molecules combine they form urea. Too much urea can damage your kidneys, so drink plenty of water if you're going to do the protein dance. Good luck with your training.
