Do you believe that Pluto exists? Can YOU prove it? Do you believe that DNA exists? Can YOU prove it? You, like all of us, really just take the textbooks and science guys word for it because they say they can prove it...we have faith, but we ourselves can't prove or disprove much of anything that we staunchly believe. Many of us believe what we were taught in school and read in the papers (or TV). Many of us were taught God/gods exist as surely as Pluto, DNA, Death, or Relativity exists. Many of the folks that have the most faith in God/gods just don't question their faith...they just know.

At one point a few hundred years ago, most of us knew the world was flat. Now we know it isn't. Now we know the universe is expanding and we have even found the remnants of the original Big Bang. What will our progeny know that we don't?

Fewer and fewer people believe in God/gods just because their parents did. Many people are questioning the 'old' religions. Hopefully world culture will move away from the intolerant rigors of many religions of today and find a bit more harmony as we develop newer religion.

That all being said, I think everyone has a feeling/suspicion of God/gods. We all know but we just can't quite put our finger on it. Most feel it and don't know what to do about it so they grab whatever religion is handy and use that for their answer to the Feeling. Many just let it pass over them and get on with their daily lives and don't think about God/gods/The Feeling much. Then there are the searchers that want to KNOW. I would guess you are one of these folks...one who searches for God/gods. God luck, I hope you come up with an answer. Myself; when I seek, I only seem to come up with more questions.

Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Jains, Sikhs, Buddhists etc. all have spiritual experiences.

These people, of different religious traditions, then put together stories to explain these experiences. Because these experiences are so difficult to describe, most traditions try by saying that the Presence is a god - a supreme, individual being. After all, in our everyday life, all we ever see and hear and talk to, are other people: other individual beings.

So when we feel something as extraordinary as a spiritual bond with something universal, the temptation is great to think it must be caused by an individual. After all, it's all we know. So we say it's a god: an individual - just a bigger, better, supreme individual.

And that brings us to faith. I know there is a Presence. I've felt it and it's made me happy. I know of other people who have felt it and who have been made happy too - mystics, saints, prophets, monks, nuns...

This presence is real. It exists.

But what it is? I don't know. No-one does. Depending on the accident of our birth, we'll try to explain it using Christian, Muslim, Hindu or other traditions. But I really don't think any of these traditions have a perfect understanding of this Presence. It's much, much bigger than any of the texts and books that humans can write.

And the Presence is certainly even much more bigger than the texts written thousands of years ago by people with a much more limited understanding of the world.

One thing is almost certainly true: it's not a God or a Creator in any of the senses that Christianity uses these words.

And spiritual experiences, while real, are not a proof for the existence of some surpreme individual.

What you must understand is that God cannot be proved nor disproved.

Empirical evidence is gathered by researchers to test a hypothesis which is either accepted or tested.

In the case of the existence of god, such methods cannot be used as no empirical evidence of such a being is possible, thus the existence or non-existence of god will never be possible.

It is with this premise that so many religious beliefs have survived for so long. No believer will ever see a proof or disproof.

The consequences of this belief in its worst form can be seen by suicide bombers and extremists who follow the 'book' faiths = Bible, Koran and Torah.

I think some people can use the faith for positive actions but when the words are twisted by many for ulterior motives, then that is when the trouble begins.

I am post-theist, I do not condemn believers (anti-theist) or non-believe (atheist).

I am beyond religion (post-theist), it is simply a non-relevant entity and does not concern me. The world will eventually have this view, I hope it is sooner rather than later.

How can you look around at the beautifull world we live on and not see proof that God lives. Science cannot even fathom how the world was created let alone copy it. And then there is all this life on the planet! Science is barely figuring how the human body works let alone be able to create one without help from the original product. A big bang huh! Oh come on. That's the invention of a bunch of scientists who were scared to death of the idea of a Superior being that was untouchable to them. If they can't control it then it must not exist. O.k. lets explore that idea. No one can prove where thought comes from or why each person is unique. The proof of how is unattainable. But yet - here we are. All I can do is bear you my testimony that "He lives". He created this earth and every plant, rock and living thing on it. And if you search him out and ask him, he will prove to you - that he loves you. You and every person on this planet. Ask him will real intent. Desiring the truth, and you will receive it!

Faith... and I don't use the word as some mystical and magical term. I use it in the practical sense.

For instance, I can offer numerous pieces of evidence supporting the existence of God. I can provide many logical arguments doing the same. However, when all evidence and logic are considered, the result is still not established as "proof". Accordingly, I must make a decision (based on evidence and logic) whether to believe that a creator exists or does not exist. Faith is the decision, based upon the evidence and logic.

Faith is not some foreign concept to humanity. Each and every day we employ it in our own life. For example, we use faith each and every time we drink from a water fountain. In each circumstance, we assume that the liquid spewing forth is not poison, even though we have not "proof" of that. We have faith based upon our experiences, evidence, and logic, that it's probably not poisoned.

The decision of whehter or not to acknowledge God is the same sort of thing. Evidence can be obtained. Reason can be applied. A decision can be made. Most simply choose to ignore the issue.

This was some of the most disturbing stuff I've read in a long time!

Hey - if you want to believe - go ahead.

But try to come up with something better than "you're here aren't you?"!

Existing proves that I exist - it doesn't mean somebody or something made us.

My other favorite "because the book (whichever one) says so" - that's just pathetic.

Religion is nothing but a crutch for weak people.

Can you prove that God does not exist? The argument goes both ways you know. I see a lot of atheists who quickly point out that there is no "proof" that God exists. However, there is no diffinitive proof that he does not exist either. As such, can you not at least allow yourself the POSSIBILITY that some kind of God could exist.

I do not believe in God in the traditional sense. I have a number of evidences which lead me to this. However, I do believe that if a god does exist that the entity exists on a level of exists well beyond my abilities of reason & perception. I recommend that you read the book "Flatland" by Edwin Abott.

I am an agnostic -- so am not about to defend their beliefs. However, I am also a lover of logic, and cannot let your question go unanswered.

We all believe in things that we cannot prove.

Let me repeat that:

We all believe in things that we cannot prove.

For example -- can you prove that mathematics is valid? I know what you are thinking "I can't do it -- but someone can." But you would be wrong. There is actually a proof (Godel's Theorem) that proves that mathematics cannot be proven to be consistent -- which means we cannot prove that mathematics is valid.

But it is such a simple thing to believe. I believe that mathematics is valid -- even though I know that it is impossible to prove. I take it as a leap of faith.

I'm not willing to make that leap of faith about the existence of God -- but I respect the rights of others to do it. Granted -- there are some religious beliefs (like creationism) that I think are ludicrous to believe -- but that is because we have evidence that it is wrong.

Evidence can be corrupted and it can be counterfeited, so you need something greater to understand the existence of God.

Besides God there is Satan, the Accuser. If evidence were enough, would not the Accuser use it to his advantage to deceive you? Would he not fake evidence to make himself seem like the most high?

How can something incorruptible be explained by the corruptible?

It can't.

So turn not to the corruptible to seek proof of the incorruptible. Instead, turn to the incorruptible to seek salvation, forgiveness and justice for that which is corrupt.

If you seek Him, you will find Him. Endure.

But how can you seek a Spiritual thing that you do not believe exists?

First you must believe.
