You missed the end. The story is

A man was running from a vicious tiger. He ran to the end of a cliff and jumped off. As he fell, he grabbed onto a tree branch, but was unable to pull himself up. He looked up and saw the tiger waiting for him. He looked down and saw another tiger waiting for him at the bottom. He looked to the side and saw a strawberry vine with a single ripe strawberry growing. With his free hand, he picked and ate it. It was the sweetest strawberry he had ever tasted...

Then the story ends. The point is, however, that a person should always take time to enjoy the simple things in life. And that, regardless of your situation, there is always something good that's happening.

Even when running from something take the time to appreciate something special like a strawberry growing in the side of the mountain. It is the simple pleasures in life that makes us forget that the lions are chasing after us.

The man is stuck between the adversity of being chased by lions and falling from the cliff. Yet he is aware of the things around him enough to notice the strawberry that others have missed.

When a man is aware of his surroundings, he can find sweet rewards missed by others, even when he is the midst of adversities.

Sort of an out of the frying pan and into the fire kind of deal.
Things could always be worse, but they eventually get better, he may have fallen off the cliff but he had a delicious ripe strawberry.
This seems to be a bit more philosophical though...

It means that so much of our life's suffering is manufactured by our own thinking (lions), regretting the past and worrying about the future. Simply come to the moment and experience the pleasure and the intensity of what you're doing at that very moment. The lions don't exist.

I read a story like this once. It was supposed to be an allegory for life. The guy knows he's going to die--either he'll climb back up and get eaten, or he'll fall--but he distracts himself with the strawberry. It was supposed to point out how people know we're going to die, but we'd freak out if we spent all our time thinking about it, so we try to have fun and distract ourselves.
