I'm white, Christian and female.

If there was a group of terrorists who fitted that description (white, Christian) running around Britain planting bombs I would be glad for the police to stop and search me. It would make me feel safer!

In the same way I hope that the majority of good, decent law abiding Muslims in the UK will understand if they are stopped and searched. I just hope that the police are as polite and respectful as possible!

Yes of course they should target muslims. But I also think they should continue to search everybody of different age, colour etc and race. We need to stop being politically correct and look after the citizens of this country. We pay enough council tax towards the police force to protect us and they need to take tougher action before something does happen and stop worrying about offending people. By the way I have no faith - being a non-believer is such a nicer way to live. If the government do pander to the PC brigade then we are going to have one big problem on our hands ie. a lot of dead people blown up as they travel on their holidays. Then it will be too late.

No I don't but, at the same time British police have never had a reputation for tact or community relations. I do think however that the people who are in the perfect situation to police this crisis are British Muslims themselves. You know the people of your community and, I assume, you care for the many people who are dying needlessly regardless of which branch of Islam they belong to. I'm pleased to say I live in a very mixed community and as regards faith I have none I put my faith in people.

With regard to the statement about the 2 men refused a flight because of how they were dressed, the passengers were spot on when soldiers deploy to iraq and afghan they are taught that if people are wearing too many clothes for the environment then this is potentialy a suicide bomber.Well done passengers on that flight and when i go on holiday in a few weeks if there are any people looking similar i will be acting in the same manner.Round of applause for the passengers who had the balls to make a stand.

If the police identify that a particular group pose a greater threat to the public then I think it is their duty to stop and search a greater proportion of that group.

If white teenagers were identified as being those most likely to commit burglaries in a given area then we should expect an increased number of white teenagers to be targeted by police in that area.

The fact that the group in question is an ethnic minority makes us uncomfortable about identifying them in a potentially negative way for fear of being accused of racism. This is the impact of political correctness.

Personally I think it makes perfect sense to target the group from which any threat is most likely to come. And given that we are currently at the greatest risk from terrorist attacks from extreme muslim groups, then the authorities must be seen to be doing their utmost to stop these groups succeeding in terrorising innocent people.

I am sorry but it is a fact of life. I am agnostic, I guess. I believe in God and I believe that Jesus was a prophet and not the only prophet. Mohamed was also a prophet, in my opinion. I do not participate in any organized religion. The majority of the terrorist attacks worldwide have been perpetrated by fanatical Muslims. Of course they represent a minute portion of the predominate religion on this planet. In the UK, as here in the US, any middle eastern person will be considered suspicious. We fear them.

'stop and search' based on someone's appearance is NEVER a good idea - look at what happened to those Middle Eastern men coming back to the UK from Spain - totally innocent and yet not allowed on a plane because of their appearance. If we have proper responsible profiling, that is based on intelligence then fair enough. Otherwise, no it will just increase the grievances the muslim community have already.

btw, I am a Christian, if you think it's relevant.

Surely it makes sense to stop & search those who fit the profile of the current bombers.
I think common sense should prevail
During the IRA bombing campaign I don't think there was many Muslims under suspicion then.

For the record I'm a Christian

Yes, this is a just and fair reaction to Fanaticism. Muslims understand that those who pervert Islam are not faithful brothers but true Infidels.

There will be no virgins waiting for them...only the Great Satan.

The west needs to fight these extremist as they fight us, unfortunately peaceful means have not worked. Now we defend ourselves.

I believe police and other authority figures do not look at the
faith, but profile the physical characteristics of various nationalities.
