No need to name call, I know that AC is air conditioning. I should have phrased the question better. What I am looking to find out, is whether it means make the temp hotter or lower. I am trying to settle a debate.

AC means Air Conditioning. So turn the AC down really means, turn the Air Conditioning down. They say that if the house gets too cold.

turn down the air conditioner. Either because it's too cold in the room or it is using too much electricity.
Especially when it's hot out, a lot of energy is used from the power grid of the power companies. If too much power is used, there will be a power failure and everyone loses power to their properties. Because certain activities are higher priority, like people who would have difficulty breathing without air conditioning, or medical properties which might have surgery going on or people on life support, they will ask others to turn down the air conditioning. Better to be a little warmer than not have any air conditioning at all due to a power failure.

Usually AC means air conditioning, hence lower the amount of cool air coming out by resetting .

this is a regularly happening argument. every time someone in my domicile asks me to prepare it up or down I ask no matter if or not they're warm or chilly because i visit by no skill make certain out what they mean. With me, after I say turn down the AC I mean make it hotter and after I say turn down the nice and comfortable temperature I mean make it cooler.

It means to adjust the temperature on the thermostat so the air conditioner will shut off. Too cold.

It means turn it down to a lower setting so it will kick on. ON the other hand if you say crank up the ac you mean turn it up so it will get cooler. One of those stupid things.

I think when someone says that they mean that it is too cold and they want it to get warmer. However, by turning it down, it means that the temperature will lower and it will get even colder. It doesn't really make sense when you think about it.
