Hi Rosie...yes, it's very natural and normal and some do it more than others after every event whereas others just do this when they wake up from a nap. Even big cats do this as well. This is an oversimplified answer, but stretching their muscles including extending their claws gets the kinks out and helps loosens their muscles.

Your cat is perfectly fine..I have four cats and they all do the same thing..and all the other cats I have had my whole life has, too..I think that their muscles just need a bit more stretching than ours..here is a nice poem you might like, that I loved as a kid:
CAT
Mary Britton Miller
The black cat yawns,
Opens her jaws,
Stretches her legs,
And shows her claws.
Then she gets up
And stands on four
Long stiff legs
And yawns some more.
She shows her sharp teeth,
She stretches her lip,
Her slice of tongue
Turns up at the tip.
Lifting herself
On her delicate toes,
She arches her back
As high as it goes.
She lets herself down
With particular care,
And pads away
With her tail in the air.

I thought I'd post this just to be sarcastic and make you mad. Seriously though, cats stretch for probably the same reason humans stretch.

Every single cat stretch. They can't help it. They love doing that sort of things. I have two cats that loves to stretch anything they see even people. It's a way that they love the environment they're in, and your cat does too. Let's put in a simple way.... they love attention, and your cat loves being with you. That's how they say i love you form.

I have three cats and they are always stretching i suppose its because cats are as a natural rule more sleepy than most other animals, especially in the day, mine spend most of the night running riot in the back garden, and spend the entire day taking power naps.

My cat stretches every other step he takes. He's also pretty old now and inclined to forget where his food and water are. Always looks surprised when I show them to him. That's just cats.

Cats are VERY individual creatures- so it's no surprise to me that your cat does that. I think she's fine. Stretching can be a luxuriating experience for HUMANS- so I can't see why your kitty wouldn't enjoy it- too. Maybe you just have a sensualist cat! :)
