Curious to see if there are other fundamentalists in terms of reading the BIble and praying and believe in salvation, but also liberal in terms of living your faith by the example that Jesus gave us in terms of walking in love?

If your reason for being republican is abortion, perhaps you need to do a search on google for "democrats for life" believe it or not, more and more people are moving towards this philosophy and values.

Count me in.

Jesus was a liberal ! In fact, he was about as far Left as someone could possibly go and the right wingers of his day hunted him down relentlessly.

I too am a Christian (but not a fundamentalist) and a democrat! It seems many Christians vote solely on the issue of abortion, which makes no sense to me. What about the people that die in the war, that have families and children that love them? All of their lives will be forever scared. I believe abortion is wrong too and would never get one, but there are so many other issues, and so many people that are suffering that need help. These people should not be ignored.

I don't think Jesus would align himself with a political party, but I do think his beliefs would be much closer to the Democrats (helping the poor, living peacefully, etc) than the Republicans. Why do so many Republicans think Democrats are evil when Democrats stand up for the poor and downcast in society, whereas Republicans help the rich get richer and are creating a big divide in our country, not to mention they are so proud because they are American and seem proud to be at war? These are all things that Jesus was against! I am not trying to knock the Armed Forces and I am an American (obviously), but I am sick of Democrats being protrayed as evil God-haters.

I love Jesus and I am a Democrat! I'm glad there are others like me out there! Sometimes I wonder...

There are a lot of "Bible reading" democrats. I know the bigots out there aren't going to believe this but the Catholic religion is probably one of the most liberal religions in the world today. The Catholic Church pours more money into liberal causes around the world in helping poor people than any government or any other organization in the world. Remember, the men who make up the administrators of the church are not the Church. Most blue collar working Catholics are democrates. The Catholic Church is the biggest supporter of unions and getting good working conditions for the non-rich. Most of your average bigots only like to see the "bad" things that have taken place in the Church but they also have many bad things happening in their names but don't like to admit it. So, there are many of us liberal, fundamentalist on this site besides you that are living thir faith by the example Jesus gave us in terms of walking in love.

Liberalism's emphasis on social justice can be seen as more compatible with Christianity. After all, Jesus's message was frequently "sell all you have and come and follow me." The first Christians lived communally - everyone contributing what they had and only taking what they needed. That is a very socialist idea.

But so long as democrats advocate for the legality of abortion, that evil has to trump the other strong points of the democrat platform. Have to take care of the fundamentals - thou shalt not kill - before you hit up the beatitudes.

I used to be a staunch Democrat. The Pro-Life issues made me reassess my political upbringing.

I believe many area within the Party.
But...

You can not help the poor if you kill them before they are born. That is not justice.

You can not help the laborers if you slaughter the future workforce before they are born. That is not sound economics. They won't pay taxes to support the retirees.

You can not fight racial, class, economic injustice but giving one half the participants in the procreative process total domination. That is not justice to child, father or community. That is stark dictatorship.

To many reasons why I can not support the party of death any longer. Further, Democrats for Life are denied openly and in policy to even speak at the National Conventions. This is not freedom of expression and freedom of speech.

Think Democratic National conventions in 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996. Democrats basically said Catholics need not apply! Except of course if you renounce your Faith.

Republicans allowed open discussion of this issue, and always has...another reason I listen to their point of views.

*Chuckles* Democrats want more laws, the Republicans are making more laws, and the Libertarians hate both of them!

I am leaning towards Democrat- I havent voted for a Democratic president since Jimmy Carter was running- but the way how the Republicans have screwed up so badly I'm leaning that way right now.

Yea, I seem to be that way.
I'm not a hardcore Christian, but I do believe Jesus is the way. I also agree with many ideas of the liberals. They seem to be more for the middle class and for the poor working class. I like that in a politician. Also, liberals seem to let others live how they want, which is what God's plan is for us. It is up to us to decide what is right or wrong, without being forced one way or another.

We Republican Christians just want to live our faith on our own, and not ask the government to do it for us.
