The Torah never refers to it as such. That is just the English translation.

The Bible does not say if the Sea of Gallilee is a fresh or salt water. Just that it was a big body of water that took a day to cross in bible times.

It's just a name. It was called that by people outside of the Bible. The Bible just uses the name it is called.
