That would depend on what you consider a "good deal"
If buying a cheap vehicle "as is" with no warranty or guarantee & no recourse if the vehicle turns out to be a POS, then buy from an auction or a private seller or online.
If you would like a large assortment but don't mind paying more than you should, Buy from a used car franchise such as Carmax.
For a quality vehicle, at a reasonable price, go to a reputable NEW car dealer, & buy a used car, that is certified & warranteed.

Usually, you will find the best deals in the classified ads. Remember, the dealer has to make a profit on each car to get paid - and also pay the overhead for the dealership.
Go to kbb.com, then hit the newspaper classifieds, and cars.com for private parties selling the type of car you want.
I bought my S-10 pickup through an ad for $2000 - I have seen the same truck on dealer lots for $6000 and $7000. There's not a thing wrong with it (except the stupid mirror just fell off the windshield from the heat; two years later).

The Honda Civic is a fine car. It comes in coupe and sedan versions. If you want a hatchback, you'll have to get one about ten years old. The Honda Fit is basically what the Civic hatchback used to be, though, and it's very good. I would look at a Ford Focus or Hyundai Elantra as well. You can check the Used cars Los Angeles market for better deals.

if you know what youre doing, and are well versed in cars, auctions like ebay or local auctions work well. If ebay, i would suggest buying local though, where you can go check it out, just to be safe (although ive bought 2 cars sight unseen from ebay and both have been great). Auto trader is good, better than dealers i would say. great classified system. Carmax generally isnt the cheapest. theres better alternatives.

nicely, i'm constructive we the two comprehend the previous asserting that money talks and each and each of something walks. for a used vehicle for reliability, non-kinfolk, this may well be palms down toyota or honda. yet is paying the top type for a sixteen y.o. boy rather well worth the dividends. it somewhat is all too based on the way he drives and cares for, or abuses, his holiday. individually, i might placed him an older Caprice or Crown Vic for countless reasons, and enable him concern appropriate to the gas bill. Teaches responsibilty, somewhat with money. although, if he's time-commemorated to be the exception to the rule, and wont bend to look rigidity, then the unique plan of Honda or Toyota makes suitable experience, as they'll hold abit of their value if cared for and could be trouble-free to sell whilst it's time to enhance. by skill of how, a carfax is mostly a good thought on any used vehicle, till its in basic terms some previous $2 hundred door slammer, no longer what you indicated as finding for.

from those two autotrader would be best, and then auto auctions, and I would last go to carmax. the carmax cars are good but they are sold thousands more then they are worth.

Autotrader is probably the best.
Carmax are not cheap
Auctions are risky unless you really know what your doing.
